Nice picks! No one went for terribly broken strategies/leaders, as far as I can see. Two leaders I believe will go for Magical strategies, which is good to showcase our new trait. lol

The Calabim WS mind games can start now. Hopefully Dave uses it on turn 1.

Checking in.

Here to up the postcount & be of hopefully only minor annoyance.

Good job getting your first pick, Kachabod. Here's to a wine/gold start. And let hope the dwarves fare better than Ichabod I in the dwarf fortress....

Speaking about WSs, what about your own?

Hello, everyone. Not a lot to discuss right now, I guess, but welcome, anyway.

Regarding our WS, I'm thinking of using it early, to get some gold when we'd otherwise fall into the -2 Unhapiness due to empty vaults (we need 100g when we found our first city, though we start with 50g). Hopefully going mining early is possible with our start, otherwise we can't use it.

I delayed using the WS for a long time on PBEM VI. It was of great help when used, because I was figting a heated battle and needed the gold for upgrades (having long given up on the dream of full vaults) - it actually gave me a lot of gold. But, well, I lost that game... Of course, that game had such a dry map that using the WS was close to suicide (if the only food resource I had in the capital became a hill, I was up for big trouble). Here, I think using it early will be better (that means our capital corn will get hilled this time around, of course).

Just ignore the unhappiness and rex to grab more happiness resources. You can get more from the WS later too.

That's an option, but we need to have happiness resources for it to work (seriously, I'm traumatized with FFH VI map... there were only something like 3 happiness resources in the whole map cry ). But the use of the spell would be more tactical than anything, so as to not have any unhapiness in our first 2 cities and manage to get to 4/6 cities faster. A snowball effect, therefore. I think it'll be better than a lot of gold later, when we could just be running 100% gold with multiplyers.

But, again, FFH VI had so little hill tiles that may take on how much gold we can get from the WS may be off. Bah, that map still haunts me!

Yeah, that was an ...interesting map.

So, some comments about our adversaries in this game.

Clearly, Thoth and Kyan are the best players around. In my humble opinion, Thoth is the best FfH player in the whole site. Kyan is not far, though.

I played some games as Kyan ded-lurker and I know he's very competitive and he will do a lot to win. I was a bit afraid that he was going for a power combo as his pick. After I've seen he picked the Amurites, I've started fearing that he knows how to make the Amurites into a power combo lol. Nah, I guess he entered the spirit of picking something a bit more unusual, even though I'm sure he wouldn't have picked them if he didn't expect to be able to win with them. Everything considered, he's a big threat.

Thoth seems to be a bit more relaxed about picks, since the Sheaim aren't a good one. He's not going full PZ rush, I'm sure, because that simply doesn't work. But if he sees the chance of rushing someone, he can quickly divert his powerful economy (which he'll have) into a killing machine. I'm lucky he doesn't have spiritual, because that would make this change even easier. Thoth knows how to make micro plans, but he's not one to lose the big picture in order to get that extra goodie. If he's near, you'll have to be on guard all the time.

Good thing for me is that Thoth and Kyan probably know they are the main opposition of each other. They'll always be eying each other more than the other players and that's where I can find my breach to win the game. FfH is less micro intesive than BTS, so I can hold my ground against them economically wise, I think. I don't need to be better than them, I just need to be in a position of a possible victory if the global political situation goes my way (i.e. Thoth and Kyan destroy each other).

--> We need a way to defeat firebows, since Kyan is likely to want to firebow spam someone. Luckily, Dwarven Catapults defeat everything (especially since they get mobility now!)

DaveV was very aptly described by Ilios in a previous game: he knows a lot about FfH, even though his base civ skills aren't as sharp as the best players around. FfH VII showed that he has a killer eye, though, because he managed to slaughter the oposition there without remorse after taking for Kyan. His pick is probably the most powerful around, though I'm not that familiar with Calabim changes in EitB. Maybe he'll go for Losha Valas and Gift of Vampirism rather than Spectre spam. That'd be wise, since Kyan can destroy spectre spam with his WS. If DaveV can get some good ded-lurker advice on economy, he can certainly make a difference in the game, especially since I don't think neither Kyan, nor Thoth will want to attack him early (and risk letting the otehr run away with economy power), so I think he'll reach vampires without a doubt.

gtAngel I don't know. Wouldn't be wise to talk without knowing him. I like his pick, Raiders/Fin is cool. He can get his sea, by the way, dwarves prefer the mountains.
