Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Pacal II of Greece! (Jowy & Yazilliclick)

novice Wrote:The nice thing about competing for wonders when you have the required multiplier, is that even if you lose the wonder race you get a nice hammer->gold conversion rate.

This has changed with 3.19. Now, it's how many base hammers you put into the wonder. If your current modifier is +100%, and you have 200 hammers into the Pyramids, and someone else builds it, then you get 200/(200%) = 100 gold. If, however, you sabotage your stone connection just before the 'Mids fall to someone else, you would still get 200 gold.

Also, if you settle on the plains stone, you'd get 2 hammers in the center square.

The only way imo is to settle on the stone, then chop the henge there. I don't think the gold reward if we miss it would be worth the hammer, security and expansion investment. I'm not even sure if the gpp and culture would be worth it. We have good fertile lands and probably won't have an immediate need for the border pop.

What a ripoff! This doesn't seem thoroughly thought through. What if you connected your stone the turn before, you would get 100 gold for ~180 base hammers...

Anyway, thanks for the info!

The problem was enough players were intentionally not finishing wonders for gold instead of wealth-building, and with, say, Stone+Ind+OR, getting 440 gold out of the 'Mids for a mere 160 hammers. Building wealth/research are solid enough (see the Cult of the Iron Hammer Adv 40 game) at 1:1; being able to get almost 3:1 is broken. It's not a perfect work-around, and can backfire (if, say, you get stone late), but I think it's an overall improvement.

Yaz, you were right about LiPing already meeting someone. She now posted a more obvious hint at it in the e-mail thread, saying that someone she met in this game had posted spoilers about their conversations in an RPB1 thread. I didn't try to find out the message though, I don't think it's really a fair move to abuse their accidental slip smoke

She could have met someone at a similar water canal as we have, just that the contact is in other side. Reason why she'd be so close to another player is that she moved twice before settling. Sounds unreasonable that two players would be only a few turns apart and without water or peaks in-between them.. Those starting with scouts would be doomed.

Yeah possible that it's across the water but not sure what conflict situation that put her in that made her need to wait for her turns. And moving twice before settling wouldn't discover too much more than what we've seen so far with our scout. No way for us to be certain on the situation though. But if the map is balanced out and she's already in a situation like that then it's likely we have somebody fairly close as well and would be nice to find them soon so we know our situation and the situation that others are dealing with. Might want to keep that scout working it's way back up and then move along the coast just in case they are across the channel.

Interesting stuff this turn. We have contact with Team India, aka Sulla & Speaker. I'm so glad we didn't go with the rush approach. We'll need to send out our first diplomacy letter. I'm not going to do that right now but later tonight. If you beat me to it, post on the thread first so we don't send two.

If their warrior will go straight for our capital, he will get there at turn 18. Going by our current plan, we'll get our first warrior out at turn 19. That can be hurried though, since the plan involved MM'ing the growth and production to finish at the same turn so we can start a worker next. Athens has grown to size 2 and is now working plains forest and fur forest. Growth is stagnant, but we'll get the workboat out soon.

Our Scout 1 is now known as Mr. "Cigarettes". I'll be re-naming units as we get them smile As a bit unrelated matter, the lands to our northwest might not be as fertile as we thought. After a closer look, I can spot quite a few of either tundra or peak tiles in the fog.

Greece -> India
Quote:Greetings, Speaker and Sullla of the India.

We have received a word our brave scout Cigarettes has reached an Indian warrior Chamberlain hiding in a jungle at T8. It is our utmost pleasure to meet your mighty civilization. smile We come in peace, and with hopes that our empires may co-exist in harmony. Technology trading might be disallowed, but I'm sure we can find ways to work together that will benefit us both. We wish you good luck with your further scouting. Keep in touch.

PS. We have a bit of a problem with our gmail account. It was banned just when I was about to send you this message. I'm not sure did it go through or not, but here it is anyway. If you had already mailed us about anything, please re-send them here.. I'm not sure will we be able to ever open the gmail account again.

I sent this picture as an attachment to prove our intentions are indeed pure.
