Four Frog Fiesta is now complete, along with both superbosses!
I had a lot of fun with this run, other than Byblos, who seemed designed to make this run hell. But I persevered through him and had a lot of fun, despite having possibly the worst early game party possible. I figured I'd just go for a random natural run to finish off my FF5 playing for a while, and have rolled Knight, Red Mage, Thief, Black Mage; 8 Bit Theatre anyone :P?
You could have Galuf be Black Belt and then die, for the real 8-Bit Theatre vibe.
And put in White Mage right at the end to solo the last boss.
Meanwhile, I'm fiestaing my way through the bonus dungeon. Why? Not because Gilgabot gives recognition because it doesn't for some reason, but for the thrill of it. Progress has been slow so far, but I'm on my way down to take on Guardian, Omega Mk-II, and Neo Shinryu. Actually making use of every class I have - I even use Thief, since that + Air Knife/Green Beret/Black Garb/Hermes Sandles lets me 2HKO Exorays with secondary Summon Syldra without them ever getting a turn.
Quick thread rez.
Haven't played Rydia solo anymore yet, so no progress there. I do have another solo class to run through the Sealed Temple, which I'll elaborate on once I've made notable progress on it, and running through another game so I have a master save so I don't have to replay the game every time.
Looking forward to it, English Language.
So here's Omega Mk-II taken down by my solo fiesta-goer, as well as Neo Shinryu. Didn't get to use fancy shield swapping strats as I did with Picard on the latter, because doing that cancels Spellblade. So instead it was all-in on the offense. Only Guardian and Enuo remain.
So, I've run quite a bit of Final Fantasy challenge runs in the past. I only recently found out about this community, so I figured I'd join and maybe report on some future challenge runs of mine when I can.
My favorite Final Fantasy games to run challenges on are the job system games, though I've done a few on others. I've completed a few Final Fantasy V class solos (Knight, Monk, Blue Mage, and most recently Freelancer). All of those were maingame only except for Freelancer where I did Sealed Temple and the Cloister of the Dead. I also played most of the maingame on Necromancer, but I never finished it and no longer have the save. I played the Knight, Monk, and Blue Mage on my FFV Advance cart so I couldn't record them, and I didn't feel like recording the Necromancer run. I recorded most of the boss fights with my Freelancer. I did skip some stuff like Shiva, Ramuh, and Bahamut because I don't necessarily care about getting all the optionals, though I do try to get most of them. I did use savestates to figure out when I needed to quicksave to avoid battles in Sealed Temple and to savestate before bosses in Sealed Temple so that I would not have to quicksave abuse my way back to them, but outside of that I didn't take advantage of them. None were used during the maingame and I only used them in Sealed Temple for those purposes. Here is the playlist for Freelancer solo. I should probably actually change Bartz's name in my runs, but I never generally cared for changing established names in games myself. I've also done a few solos in Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Advance, but I never recorded vids of a full solo run in Tactics(I completed Monk and some of the PSP classes) and I did record for some of the FFTA ones. For Tactics Advance, I've done a Fighter solo and a Sniper solo(well as solo as it gets because Marche is forced into the party even if you can't use him due to it not being a human class.) I also started a White Mage game once and recorded most of it but never uploaded the vids. I did do every mission from when challenges are considered to start in FFTA(The Cheetahs) to the end except for Jagd Hunt with solo White Mage. I had cheated past Jagd Hunt to test if the rest was possible(it was and I beat all the other story battles), but when I tried to do Jagd Hunt legit, I could never get lucky enough, did get close though a few times, but I no longer have the save or vids. Now that I'm done with another solo class run on FFV, I'm trying to decide what type of run to do next. I'm considering a few other class solos, but I'm also considering a complete reversal on the idea of Freelancer solo. While Freelancer solo could level up but not learn any other skills, I kind of want to try a solo where I have access to all skills, but Bartz is stuck at level 2. I'm sure level 1 is possible, but I'd rather be able to Goblin Punch Siren just to avoid the luck of having to run her out of MP without ever seeing most of her spells and maybe survive Magisa's Aero if I master Monk. I do also kind of want to do more FF VI solos, but I'd need to replay that game to refresh my memory of where stuff is at, and FFV is the FF that I pretty much know most of how to do the bosses.
Plus Bartz can't be level 1
Without cheats (which is fairgame for this purpose)/ having another character take his XP/ using Lenna/Galuf.I've always liked the Freelancer solo, it's a fun one. Such a random selection of tools. Thanks for sharing that run, it was fun to watch! From my recent Low Level No Equipment Solo, I can tell you you'll struggle through the opening bosses, to Warus; Karlabos will literally necessitate a Monk just heal spamming and praying for counter. You don't actually have the EXP to spare to learn Vampire (You can't learn it without levelling up) so thats your only option. And it's horrible. Siren Goblin punch + Potion will work, and I guess Rod break for Magisa? Galura will probably be worse tbh, with HP leak on such a low level character. Unless of course you learn Frog Song, but that would again make Bartz level up. It all depends what exact restriction you put on yourself.
Hey, thanks for joining us, ChaosEnigma. For anyone who didn't click, the videos in that playlist contain some good descriptions of each fight. Gilgamesh on the boat is vulnerable to Death status despite being Heavy, who knew that?
For Omniscient, Bone Mail + Reflect Ring confers full immunity to everything he does, for a level 1 Freelancer or anyone else who can wear them. (Bone Mail stops Drain and Bio.) He'll slowly kill himself with reflected spells. Dispel his regen with Judgment Staff to speed it up. For Grand Aevis, getting the surplus characters Stoned instead of dead works around zombie problems. I never knew Judgment Staff can dispel the inherent Protect and Shell status on some of the later bosses. Will have to remember that one!
Judgment Staff Dispel on Omniscient would be a good idea whenever he stops or silences himself. And while I'm aware of the Bone Mail, Reflect Ring thing, I was worried he'd reflect a cure spell off himself, but then I don't remember how likely that would be. I definitely should have planned that fight a bit better before trying it.
The Heavy but vulnerable to death thing also applies to Necrophobe's barriers, which doesn't really matter for most classes since you'll probably want the accessory for Haste instead of Reflect, though having Reflect would be nice if Necrophobe decides to cast Death. But if you have a way to cast Haste on yourself, you could potentially bounce Death spells with Assassin Dagger to kill them, and of course Mystic Knight gets to just break Blade them while Chemist/Cannoneer have ways to ignore Reflect in inflicting it. Petrification probably would be a better idea. I was going with what the GBA Challenges guide said for solo low level Sealed Temple with Zombies(for obvious reasons) and petrifieds not being allowed, and he has you getting Thornlets, Angel Rings, and Aegis Shields for the dead characters. While I'm not sure if that was necessary. Only thing I can think of would be a confused enemy using Esuna or something, but even that doesn't come up in Sealed Temple, so I'm wondering if banning petrified was really necessary. I guess it might be a bit cheaty if petrified actually doesn't matter and I was getting an advantage from the zombied characters when I could have been avoiding it, but even that was a pretty minor advantage since I don't think any of the situations that came up would have actually killed me. Some of the boss starting statuses are only Initial while some are Always. Both Omegas being always Reflect/Shell, Enuo form 2 being always Protect/Shell, some always Float. Omniscient's are Inital and not Always, both turtle bosses are Inital, and probably some others that didn't come up. |
