Well, the pick process was a thing.

Caledorn turned down the passably good England, and ended up with a quality pick in Ethiopia. Caledorn will get first choice of pantheon and religious beliefs, and have plenty of faith to burn on them. UA is handy if you play tall, UB is great for playing wide. Very versatile civ.

Yuris got three pretty shit options, but probably got the least bad of the three in Russia. The sad part about that is the majority of his benefit will come from +1 hammer on horses and iron, not a particularly stellar bonus, but better in a MP Pangaea setting than either Brazil or Indonesia. There's also the double resources, but Russia don't have a UU that would justify spamming of horse/iron units. Krepost is a meh bonus on a meh building, and Cossacks aren't particularly better than Cavalry which I find are rarely used anyway.

Hashoosh made a massive error turning down Ethiopia, and I would've rather taken Byzantium than Carthage given that everyone should be able to found a religion (4 religions on small maps IIRC). Carthage aren't the worst civ; their automatic coastal city connections after The Wheel is a very nice boost to money and means they can potentially forgo roads for those cities. Quinquiremes are pretty much irrelevant, and Forest Elephants are expensive and not even that great. The mountain movement bonus post-first GG is highly situational, probably won't make any real difference.

Finally, I took Spain after turning down Morocco. Morocco are very good in SP, but most of their power comes from trade routes which in an MP setting you can be locked out of. On top of that, Kasbah's are good but situational, and Cavalry UUs I don't rate. Spain on the other hand is roll the dice to win. If I start near an open Great Barrier Reef, I effectively have the cash to buy the starting units of a Deity AI, and will have a city with two tiles each with yields of 4food, 2 hammer, 2 gold, 4science, 8faith (assuming I can take One With Nature pantheon). If I start near Uluru, it'd be one tile with 4 food and 20 faith per turn. Lake Victoria, 10 food and 8 faith. If by some fluke I get Fountain of Youth on my doorstep, +20 happiness just by having it in my territory. The flip side is if I don't find any natural wonders first, and I don't get to settle any, I effectively have no decent bonuses. Conquistadors are pointless on a pangaea, and Tercios are meh. But the risk of giving up potentially a game winning civ at map generation for a Denmark or other shit tier civ forced my hand to take Spain.

So, based on the civs, the result of this game will be
Azza (if good NW spawn)
Caledorn
Azza (if average NW spawn)
Yuris
Hashoosh
Azza (if awful NW spawn)

Given the importance of finding those NWs, I'll be settling my first city for 3 quick scouts. Hopefully I can find a NW and buy a settler.

Pretty terrible capital. No fresh water and my luxury is whales, requiring the hassle of workboats. On top of that, the bonus luxury is ivory, which requires a tech in trapping that I don't particularly want to have to research too quickly. Still, could be worse.

Popped mining from a hut, which is nice. More trapping resources, which at least makes it less of a waste to research it early.

I'm betting that yuris moved onto a hill with a mining luxury. GNP and MFGoods both certainly suggest it given he didn't settle turn 0.

Will probably build a city in this area at some point. Hopefully can find something a little better for city #2 though.

Caledorn isn't the founder of the first pantheon, but whoever it was didn't take a +faith pantheon, which seems odd.

Green CS to the north west, could be anything but religious IIRC.

Marble on the river to the south east. City #2 probably goes in that direction or towards the truffles given Caledorn is down south.

I would post a pic of your original start and then say you looked at the map and found no natural wonders near you.

I'm more than happy to play on with the current map, I just want Ichabod to be able to play Brazil if he wants and Rowain to feel like he owns his civ. I hadn't even considered my own position when I made that post.

Oh, I assumed that you would have to reroll the map because what civ you pick matters on turn 0 due to start basis. You should probably clarify that in the thread if it should be rerolled or not.

I'm just leaving it up to the two players who weren't involved in the setup process.
