Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[PB28 SPOILERS ] Fenn Presents: A Comedy of Errors

I'm going to see the Canada Day celebration, but when I get back I can write up a fully detailed version of my Stonehenge plan if it'd help you.

Here's what things look like on Turn 10:

Here's my current micro plan for Stonehenge:
Code:
2. Stonehenge: Chop 3 forests by Beijing, complete on T39 or T38
Turn 15: Beijing grows on Warrior, Worker camps Grassland Deer
    Turn 18: Deer Camp completed
Turn 19: Beijing grows to Size 3, begins Worker; Worker 1 moves to Silver Hill
Turn 20: Worker 1 mines Silver Hill
Turn 23: Silver Mine completes; Beijing works Wheat/Silver/Grassland Deer
Turn 24: Worker 2 completes, Beijing resumes Warrior 2; Worker 1 moves 1SW, Worker 2 moves 1W to Deer Hill
Turn 25: Warrior completes, begin Settler; Worker 1 moves 1SW to grass riverside forest; Worker 2 camps Hill Deer
Turn 26: BW researched, tech Mysticism; Worker 1 begins chop
Turn 28: Worker 1 finishes chop, Worker 2 finishes Camp; Beijing works Wheat/Hill Deer/Silver
Turn 29: Workers 1 and 2 move SE to chop forests
    Turn 30: Mysticism researched, tech Wheel; Workers begin chops 2-3;
Turn 31: Settler completes, begin Stonehenge; Settler moves 1SE 1E; revolt to Slavery
Turn 32: Beijing works Wheat/Grass Deer/Silver; Settler moves 1SE to plains hill; Chops 2-3 finish
Turn 33: Shanghai founded, builds Worker, works Beijing's Wheat; Beijing works Hill Deer/Grassland Deer/Silver; Worker 2 mines Grass Hill 1S of Beijing; Worker 1 moves to forest 2S of Beijing
    Turn 34: Worker 1 begins chop 4
Turn 35: Take science slider to 80%
Turn 36: Beijing grows to size 4, Riverside Grass Hill Mine completes, Chop 4 finishes; Beijing works RGHM
Turn 37: Wheel researched, tech Pottery; Workers road ?
    Turn 39: Stonehenge completes

We can speed up Stonehenge to T38 by working hammer tiles instead of grass Deer; this slows the cap's growth a bit (size 4 at T40). Other options include delaying the Slavery revolt or delaying swapping the Wheat over to Shanghai to get Beijing to Size 4 sooner. I might have fucked up already by not working the grassland Deer on Turn 9; our capital may not reach Size 2 on Turn 15 like I had planned, so we'll see how completing the Wheat farm helps.

Either way, the race with Adrien/Mardoc is going to be close. Of course I'm talking about the thread spamming competition here; they've pulled ahead in posts and views! mischief

Turn 11
So last turn our brave Scout ended turn next to a Lion. Here's how that went:

That feels a little unlucky, but it's not too bad. We may want to heal up though, 0.4 Scouts can be taken out by Wolves. For now, we moved NW-NW and found this:

Forget that other site, this looks great. Deer, Crabs, Pigs and a lake all within first ring! It's a bit far from the capital but being against the coast should keep it safe. It doesn't bring in the Furs in its BFC, which could actually matter to us - we have enough health and food in our capital to ram the happy cap pretty early on, even with the Silver connected.

The lay of the coast here makes me wonder what our landmass actually looks like. Our south, southeast and southwest all end in ocean, and to the north we can make out tundra in the fog. You could be right about this being an island start, CH. hmm Hopefully there'll be some more land due west or something.

Yeah, this has to be nine isolated but lush starts--no sign of Galley/Workboat-accessible landmasses, are there? Which resources are missing from our island so far?

Again, no sims on my part yet--then again, if we are an island, we can probably do a lot more simming at that point mischief

Here's the situation as of Turn 13:

1N of the Scout might be a good city site; it grabs fish furs silks and a lake, and the city to the south could send up a Work Boat to net the fish once borders pop. But maybe we should pick a spot that grabs both lakes so we only have to build one Lighthouse instead of two. Anyway Animal Husbandry finished this turn, revealing Horses on our southern seaboard:

As to whether this is an island start, I'm inclined to think no if only because the turn tracker says this is a Continents map. shades There is a grassland off to the east that, if it's on its own landmass, could be reached via Galley:

But it could also be part of our landmass, we'll have to send our Warrior that way to check.

Since that Warrior is finishing in 2t, do you think I should have our Scout sit and heal? He'll probably die to anything meaner than a Wolf if he doesn't.

If it weren't for that tundra in the fog, I'd think I was in the bottom of a peninsula:

Here's the capital, Plague; it'll grow to Size 3 then start on a second Worker.

Decided to go for a disease theme in the end, and what better to start with than the original killer? If anybody's done this before I don't want to hear it!! mischief

In the interest of disclosure I accidentally clicked into wetbandit's spoiler thread earlier today. Backed out immediately though, don't think I saw anything other than his avatar.

I've played two turns today btw...can we make it to three?

Yeah, I'm glad turns are going fast smile

Now would be a good time for a full map of the area--it's about time to start dotmapping wink

If we are isolated, does that make it more or less desirable to get Stonehenge? Obviously we still like the help expanding borders, but we won't have to fight any culture wars for a while wink

Here you go:

Scout continues to explore on 0.36 HP. I don't want him to die but he would take 7 turns to heal and we need to see how close our neighbors are. I also wonder if Stonehenge or even Mysticism is worthwhile; I think I will found the western city first and it would not need border pops for a while. There are also a few other city sites which could function well enough with first-ring resources. Teching Mysticism takes time away from Hunting and Fishing to improve our resources, or Wheel/Pottery to get trade routes and get our cottages going. Perhaps our chops and whips would be better spent on Workers and Settlers.

Well we still have until turn 27 (when BW completes) to decide. For now I'm still leaning towards going for Stonehenge. I'll try my hand at a dotmap tomorrow.

Turn 21:

Scout is North of the Capital, going to defog the tiles just north of it in case there's a spectacular city site before heading Northwest. First Warrior is heading east to try and find a neighbor and see if the fogged island is really an island, and the second is going southwest to check if we have any other resources near our Horse before returning to guard our second city.

It turns out there isn't Tundra near us - my bad for misreading the fogged tiles. We almost certainly have neighbours on this landmass.
