Err, apologies if that was all totally obvious to you already!
The problem I see with this line of play is that, if I lose one of the battles, not only I don't take the city, but I also lose my influence in the area and the opportunity to take the city back from whoever captured it.
So I did the following:
I attacked with the axe (which took more hits than I was expecting, unfortunately), not with the chariots. Notice that AT withdrew his units, so it's only me and Molach, which is better because Molach is further away than AT. If Molach captures the city, the best he can defend it with is a (likely injured) axe or chariot, plus a warrior. In that case, I think I can take the city from him with 2 chariots and my injured axe.
If Molach doesn't attack, next turn I take the city with the axe + chariot, with a second chariot to cover any losses. The axe, due to the damage, only gets 96% odds, but if I succeed, I open the HE.
Also, my settler is already in position to resettle, in the more defensive spot, covered by a spear.
I wonder if Jowy is only roading to the sheep while he waits for his borders to expand or he plans to settle down there. I saw a settler heading this way last turn, but I figure it would settle east, for the clams. I can understand why Jowy would want that southern city, though. The city to the West of Valkyrie is actually his Capital, so if I settle down there, I can almost boat his city from inside my own city. I have no intention on fighting over this land for now. I'm FIN and Byzantium, while he's IMP/EXP of Russia, my window to attack Jowy is a bit further, hopefully with a tech lead.
And Jowy was nice with me, so I managed to keep my city. The galley is for that 2 seafood island city.
And here's the settler for it. Dropping the engineer for this turn gives the settler 1t earlier, but doesn't delay the GP, so it's all good. Perhaps it delays the GP considering I'll have the GM points from Colossus soon, but it'll be ahead of Grim Reaper's GP anyway.
By the way, if I get a low odds GMerc, I'll hold it for a GA, and I'll use the GSci from Grim for an Academy in Shinigami. I'll hold the GA until I can revolt to civics, hopefully HR/OR + Bureau at the end.

I didn't want to spam the CIV 6 thread with my personal opinion on games, so I'll just spam here and fish for comments:
This says a lot about what I think games are becoming nowadays. They aren't a tool for you to create your own fun (the cardboard box), they have to bring the fun ready for take-out (the stupid beanie). And in the process, everything becomes shallow and very strict.

FPS / 3PS games which aren't exclusive to PCs are frequently (and often justifiably) accused of being "dumbed down" to cater to the console market. The increasingly incoherent and actionized Mass Effect games are a great example.
The Civ franchise is even worse off, apparently being simplified for tablet & mobile gamers. Fewer units to move, free candy handed out for minor achievements, vastly simplified empire management, all packaged as "innovation" even as the games repurpose concepts decades old.
I don't have much faith left in the genre. On the plus side, the great CRPG revival is still going strong!

Well, my country just lost its democratically elected president (which I happen to have voted for, by the way), and I'm about to lose a city in this game. Lets say the day hasn't been going very well.
I'll try to conjure an update later, good thing that the game is down for now.

I heard about that. From what I understood there is a lot of irony in that many parliamentarians have much bigger charges against them which never get brought due to a back logged legal system and a timeout clause. Mental if true.

Do you get the extra commerce from water tiles in the turn you finish the Colossus? I believe you get it, but only for the cities next in the turn order from where its built. Is that assumption correct?

I don't think so - I talked about this in my 27 thread re the extra hammers from chemistry seeming to apply everywhere. I believe the game goes through each city applying the commerce and research/gold, then hammers, then food; because I got the bonus chemistry hammers the turn I researched chemistry in every city.

Yeah, tech happens before production, so no bonus gold from the Colossus. If you were building a wonder that gave hammers you'd be correct, any cities after the wonder-builder in the turn order would get the bonus.

Thanks for the answers. That means there's no way for me to get currency this turn, even though I'm just a few beakers short.
I owe you guys some updates, that I missed due to my typical game related depression, coupled with the stressful last week. Lets see...
(Almost) Everything was going according to plan, near the barb city. Molach didn't attack the 2 warriors left on the city, so I had a 96% axe and 2 80% chariots to finish that city.
The gold was really nice and it surely helped getting to currency in a decent time. The bad new was that I lost one of the chariots. Axe reached 10xp, which was a coll bonus.
I proceeded to settle my defensive city near AT, as planned. That noght I received a PM from AT, asking why I didn't keep our turn order, where he played first every turn. I was eager to capture the barb city and played earlier than usual that night, thinking there wouldn't be a problem, seeing that AT had retreated his units. But it ended up being that he wasn't retreating, just using the units for other reasons for a turn, and he had military movements to make in that area. We agreed that hewould double move me the following turn, so no reload was needed (I think he couldn't reach the barb city in time that turn, either way).
Here's the situation on that turn:
As you can see, I was on a very though spot. AT could kill my units that attacked the barb city with good odds, and I'd only have a meager spear to defend against his axe. I was sure that I'd lose the city, if AT indeed decided to attack, and that was very likely. I checked the autopromote option, mostly to get the 10xp promo on the axe for the HE, because the guy would certainly bite the dust before I could promote him by myself.
My biggest mistake was not whipping an archer on Jizo the turn before. The city was size 2, working pigs and a cottage. I should have known better that an archer 1t earlier was immensely more valuable than the few commerce gained from that cottage. Even Molach had an axe in the area, that could easily take a city defended solely by a spear, so I really should have done it. This way, the archer would be 1t too late to defend against AT's axe.
AT indeed killed my axe on the following turn. But he made a mistake. I think he didn't want to risk attacking my combat 1 chariot, so he moved all his units to the forest and left a path open to my chariot retreat to the city. I think he should have put one of his units on the fp tile, to guarantee that I couldn't retreat. This way, his axe couldn't attack my spear, he'd target the chariot instead, leaving an archer and 2 chariots against a spear, which is about 60% odds, according to the combat calculator. The axe had 70%, so AT had less than 50% chance of capturing the city the next turn, due to not blocking me.
He ended up attacking only with the axe, killing my chariot, but didn't take his chances against the spear. So, I was able to get the protective archer on the city, which made me safe (as another archer was soon following).
AT offered peace the following turn, I accepted. Then he settled this city:
So I ended up without the King of the Rats. But I'm pleased with the current situation, even without the furs. Hopefully AT is also satisfied and we can keep peace. I won't risk it, though, and I'm getting the needed units there to make an attack too costly to be worth it, if what's to be gained isn't lost pride.
The loss of the Rat King also made me realize I need to get HR way sooner than planned. I'm going there after currency, and I'll revolt with anarchy. The land has a lot of good tiles, and I can't wait that long to grow my cities past size 6.

Two new cities!
I should have built a WB sooner in Angel, but I missed it due to the stressful previous turns.
This one I think I could have waited for a turn or two, to get currency a turn faster. Oh well...
