Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

RPB3 SPOILERS Bismarck of India (regoarrarr, darrelljs, sooooo, sunrise089)

No harm in telling him we plan on settling the stone near term, but we need to escort the Settler now. I guess NAP negotiations depend on whether we want to rush him. I'd love to know if he has Copper.

For a chat, I am available lunch time and then this evening around 8 (all EST = GMT-5).

You are EXP (cheaper workers and Granaries) and India (Fast Workers) but it looks like you try to diminish your advantages (or someone talked you into it).

I agree frown. Not getting Pottery ASAP would be just dumb. If we can trade for it without losing too much time, fine. But I think we should go The Wheel next to unlock Chariots and roads.

We also need to meet Rome, apparently Krill sent us a message to our email address on how to do that?

Okay let's plan on a chat around noon EST. Hopefully sunrise and sooooo will be available, but if not, feel free to give opinions before or after that

Sent off a note to Willem of Portugal (Dantski), since it had been a few days and I didn't want them to think we hated them

Quote:Hi Willem!

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. We are still working through how we want to handle diplomacy in our team. It can be challenging figuring out the right mix, the more people you have on a team.

We hope that our silence was not mis-interpreted as hostility towards your team - on the contrary, we are happy to confirm that we are allies, at least as far as we know!!! : -)

We have contacted HRE, Aztecs and Krill (and yourselves) as you mention, and we just in the past turn or two contacted Exploit, who is right to our direct west (I guess to your north, right?). I'm not in game right now, but the last pic I have is one where your warrior is on a desert hill 2SW of our 2nd city. Exploit founded his 2nd city 6N2W of that desert hill (so 4NW of our city). We believe his capital is to the west of that but have not seen it.

Thanks for the note on Rome's location - hopefully we can make contact with them soon!

As for teching, we just finished a tech and are saving gold and I understand you guys are heading towards Sailing? I think that will be a very important tech on this map since it seems we have lots of loooooong rivers.

Hope to hear from you soon, and party on!

I believe we have a warrior in the west that is near a Dantski city. It needs to move west, and then around the north of Dantski's borders.

Rome has a warrior on the west side of Dantski that is supposed to be moving east and north. Should meet up near a peak tile directly north of Dantski's city.

There is a pic in the email from Willem / Dantski

I have a few thoughts on this, as I continue to thread-spam (A race, which, by the way, we are now winning lol)

1) I don't know if you guys have ever played the basketball-like game of "21". Basically it is usually played with 3 people (or more). 1 person has the ball, and the object for them is to try and score baskets. The other 2 people are supposed to defend and get the ball for themselves. Typically, the best strategy on defense is to let the OTHER guy do most of the defense, while you hang out by the basket and wait to rebound a missed shot. Obviously it's a bit of a prisoner's dilemma thing since if both people do that then the guy with the ball scores easily.

I just want to make sure we don't fall into that trap - spending resources on military while the other civs just tech up and expand.

However with all that said, I'm not opposed to a choke.

2) Tech path - I need to get in game, but what kind of research time are we looking at for Wheel? We did AH on T48. Wheel is 108 beakers, and we are making like 8-9 bpt at breakeven, right? And that's only going to go down when we found our 3rd city, which will be within the next 4-5 turns, right? Archery is the same beakers, but has a pre-req, and is (or will be) a monopoly tech. If we can get the tech alliance firmed up (and I agree with darrell that we need to make sure of that), I think Archery is a better move.

But we can talk about all that at lunch

I'll be at the lunch meeting I think. I also was going to write a draft email to Exploit, but the NAP is the biggest issue and can very much go either way.

It would be the better move if you are sure you get Wheel the time you get Archery but for this to happen someone has to reach Alpha first. Now if I understood your posts correctly the plan is that Krill oracles it right? But to make this happen he needs to learn Myst Med/Poly Priesthood Pottery Writing. According to your spreadsheet he has just Myst & Poly so it looks to me as if there is still a long time left without a usefull thing to do for your fast workers.

EDIT says Pottery not needed so it is possible to get alpha that soon.

Oracle comes in on EOT62, so we'll have Alpha and whatever techs we can get in the agreement on T63.

So yes, it is possible if we research Wheel now, that we'll have it a few turns before that (not sure - have to check in game), but I guess it remains to be seen how much sooner.

Here's my analysis pre-chat.

1. If we are going to rush, it has to be The Wheel.

2. If no one in the alliance has committed to The Wheel -> Pottery, it has to be The Wheel.

3. If the team(s) that have committed to The Wheel -> Pottery aren't willing to front techs and don't want Archery, it has to be The Wheel.

4. If the team(s) that have committed to The Wheel -> Pottery aren't willing to front tech and want Archery, then Archery is fine.

5. If the team(s)O that have committed to The Wheel -> Pottery are willing to front techs, then Iron Working is fine.

I honestly don't think we get past point #2, because I don't think the alliance is coming together fast enough to know the answer.
