[SPOILERS] Fire and Blood: Nyles Standish and Zalson watch the world burn

(June 28th, 2016, 00:27)Zalson Wrote: Still trying to successfully get the mod installed. I shall persevere and make inane comments in the meantime.

SE move seems as good as any other.

Thanks for the save, GermanJoey.

With regards to the mod, you just unzip the file you download from here:

http://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/showt...p?tid=8208

The folder you get when you unzip has to go in a specific location which depends on which folder Civ4 is installed in; n my computer, it's C:\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods. It'll have folders for all of the default mods that come with the game. Either unzip the "RtR Mod 2.0.7.4" folder directly into the \Mods folder, or unzip it wherever and then copy and paste the 2.0.7.4 folder where it needs to go.

Once it's installed, start BTS normally, then go to Advanced > Load Mod > RtR Mod 2.0.7.4.

After you've done that, to log into the game you load the mod then go to Multiplayer > Direct IP Connection. On the right hand side, under "Join Game", enter the network address (which is pitboss.watto.no:2059 for this game). Leave the password field blank and hit connect.

If you don't do the fix described in this thread you won't be able to connect to the game at the same time as other players.

EDIT: I didn't see your thread in general; unfortunately I have no clue about wineskin. Someone there mentioned a \Mods\ folder in \My Documents\, make sure you put the mod in the folder I described and not the documents one.

Still waiting on Borsche to end turn with 60 hours left on the turn timer banghead.

I'm pretty sure I just got everything corrected. Let's see...

EDIT: Well, I got mod running, so at least I'll be able to help by simulating things.

EDIT2: I'll need to revert my civ 4 version as well, to ensure I can play via directIP connection.

Great! Have you tried to connect to the Pitboss yet?

Crashed to desktop on my first try. Trying again...

in thoughts on the actual game: I did some thinking today about maybe a pitstop to agriculture on the way to mining. The end result was that we grew to size 3 really quickly and then shortly ran out of things for the workers to do once they pastured the cows.

Mining > BW > Agri is looks better at this point. It's slower to Size 3 but would allow us to get out an extra warrior and/or worker (haven't checked on that yet). Adding the chop is helpful, too, in that it gives our workers something to do.

These are all things you already tested but ... just trying to contribute!

I got in and, in the comedy of errors that has been me trying to play in this game, I immediately cmd-tabbed out and crashed the game (EDIT: OT4E logged out 4 minutes later; maybe I didn't break it?). But not after taking a screenshot (which is exactly what you had taken a SS of).

In the event I get in, would you want me to move the scout in our previously established direction? SE to the plains hill? Just not sure if you'd want me to move it. Let me know what you want; it's your game. I'm just the overly energetic peanut gallery.

I'd really really like to found on that plains hill to capture 6 resources but that just doesn't seem practical. Split, it gets two/three strong sites.

T3:
Scout moves SW-SW (?)

T4:
Based on the SW-SW move?

Not too much to do right now, I suppose? We could run through many successive micro plans but we kind of know what we're doing... at least for the next few days. I suppose we're still waiting for the turn to roll.

Settling on the plains hill might not be too bad since we can still have lots of the resources shared with other cities. For example, a city 3 north of the plains hill site can share the silk, cows and the sheep. It's suboptimal to have a whole bunch of unshared food tiles if all you can do is grow into unhappiness, but shared food lets us get the tiles improved earlier so when the new cities are built they immediately have improved tiles to work, and cities that have grown to the happy cap can work mines or cottages while the younger cities or cities growing from whips use their food tiles. Also, we've got Sacrificial Altars to look forward to eventually, so some cities than more food emphasis than usual won't be such a bad thing since we can whip off a lot more frequently.

Still too early to make any definitive decisions on where to put the second city, though. I kind of want to see what's to the east of this potential super city and how that would affect settlement plans. In furtherance of that aim we could send the scout northeast onto the sheep. On the other hand, that delays circling the scout around to check out other potential city sites near the capital. I'm not sure whether I like that or the SW-SW move better; currently leaning on SW-SW, whoever logs in next can exercise their best judgement, or flip a coin or whatever.

In terms of micro plans, it does look to me like we'll probably just keep the one we've got until Bronze Working. We've got more map information so we could reliably sim out a lot farther.

Still waiting for Stardoor to end turn.

I was thinking along the same lines here after I considered the map more. We'll have to see if anything is up there.

Agreed. I would favor circling back toward the capital and sending one of our warriors/another scout out that direction once we've defogged a bit. So we're in agreement there too.

Although: are we that likely to find another monster site nearby?
