Email from Rome
Quote:Dear DJ,
Firstly, I can assure you that your worker is in no danger. In fact, Smash has already moved away to a less threatening position. SsS may be fighters, but we fight honorably.
Secondly, SsS is not interested in making a joint attack on anyone at this very early age. We are set on using our unique unit to our benefit, and intend to do so on our own as we do not believe any help will be required and prefer not to share the spoils of war. If you do decide to carry out an attack on Exploit in the time frame you have suggested, you will do so without the support of SsS.
The reluctance you are describing is caused by a combination of general scepticism among our team regarding the gameplay offered by being in a large alliance, and Cath Bruig's initially quite amateurish way of trying to recruit us. It is only today, based on Cath Bruig's last message and our chat, that we first got the information we actually needed to make a sound decision. We are at work coming up with a suggestion for how a SsS membership within the alliance should look like, to make such a membership satisfactory to us, but that does not just happen in an instant.
So withi Rome not coming to the party, and Portugal not having horses, that could be a problem...

WhoTF is Cath Bruig and why is he raining on my parade?
Well...Krill is going to have to come up with some War Chariot's if he wants to stop Exploit from teching Alphabet, or we are going to have to get some serious tech considerations cause we'll have to commit all our resources otherwise.
All that said, I found Rome's reply very professional. They are honest about their intentions (and correct; AGG Rome doesn't need help), and are approaching the situation with a good deal of intelligence IMO. Kudos to them .

I would reply asking them not to tip off Exploit and promising not to expand in their direction past his capital. I'd also acknowledge in the mail that that's a token gesture since doing so would wreck our econonmy, but that we wanted to find some way however small to get a +1 in relations. They aren't dummies, it would be a mistake to insult their intelligence in any diplomatic dealings.

darrelljs Wrote:and correct; AGG Rome doesn't need help I'm not so absolutly sure about that. This is a tech-trading game so the time of the huge advantage of Praets could be over very fast. Having no allies then would be a surefire way to disaster. What good are Praets if your neighbours come knocking with Cats,X-bows and Maces

Hmm...maybe, but my gut tells me even in this game that IW has a long enough shelf life to give them one successful war. Time will tell. Played our turn. Here is what I have at LN:
In two turns I want to shift to a Worker, then whip out this one with overflow into a second around turn 62. That way we have four Workers and four cities when we get The Wheel and Pottery. Demographics:

Okay, so if we are going to go after Exploit solo, we need to do several things IMO.
sunrise - You need to come up with a plan. What units do you need when, and how you want to move them, etc. sooooo and I can figure out the micro to get you what you need.
rego - We need to C&D Exploit big time; find out his map info if possible, get all of our EPs on him, determine what strategic resource, techs, units he has. Not sure if this is at all possible but intel is going to be key.
Then, I think we need to ensure our tech future. I'll chat up Krill and tell him we can and will go full military, but we need to have our research subsidized for some time. I'll also try and get one War Chariot from him. We need to keep in mind that Ruff is going to need a couple of Chariots from us as well; it is basically full military to achieve our short term goals.
If at any time this venture looks to fail, we also need to have a graceful exit strategy that keeps our alliance in decent shape.

Also, if someone plays the next turn please note we can switch the grassland Farm to the grassland Mine and still grow.

That's awesome darrell - I was thinking about this while I was running this morning and that's the exact plan that I came up with (barracks till size 4, then double wh ip worker -> worker)
I thought Cath Bruig was Krill, but maybe it's Portugal? Like I told them in my email, it's getting hard to figure out who is who - why can't people just call people by their civ name!!!
I'll post more here in a sec

Sorry it took some time to reply, RL is like that sometimes.
Nonetheless, our chariot Valeria is a party horse (pun fully
intended). He had a full Lion stew without any hangover at all. We
welcome you to the lands of Greater Hyboria to PAR-TAY! anytime you
want.
Congradulations on completing Stonehenge, or is it more appropriate to
say Woodhenge? In any case, what other wonders could we expect you to
PARTY ON in the future?
We are indeed going to be trading pottery on BTTD . It is our
understanding that you will be trading Masonry?
We have been approached by DIM about working closer together between
you, Ruff, DIM and ourselves (I imagine that Ruff is in WHEOOHRN mode
ATM). We are willing to join this group. Do we have a decent name yet?
Enough Talking!
WarriorKnight of A4
P.S. Enough Talking is our standard way to sign off, just as we expect
PARTY ON!!! to be yours. See the attached image.
It's an image of Conan? Schwarzenegger? somebody anyone with a big 2-handed sword sayign "Enough Talking" - feel free to log on to the email to check it out

So good stuff from the Ottomans.
Big email chain between us, ruff, ottomans and HRE, which I guess is our "inner alliance"

Quote:It is unfortunate that you might be in a war this early. Given the
circumstances, we would also along the lines of KILL INCA if we were
in your situation.
We are still heading to your 2nd city with Belit. We agree that we
shouldn't declare until tech trading day, but let us know if they
seriously threaten your city and there is something we can do. We will
be scouting out the land to your SW after we have made contact with
the Inca.

Quote:I have 2 warriors in my 2nd city - should be enough to hold against a Q. I can also whip an archer in a few turns or 2 warriors if needed. I currently have 1 archer in my capital with 1 added this turn, next turn and maybe the turn after.
I'm sending another email shortly with a pic for DIM.

HRE
Quote:DIM,
Here is the situation regards our warriors. I've just moved my warrior up to the forest hill (1NW of current). I expect that this is the turn that Inca will declare (or next turn). Based on intel from India, HotDog (the Q) left their borders a few turns ago heading E and based on the turn of departure will be within my vision of my 2nd city (no border pop yet) this turn (T55). As such, I am expecting them to co-ordinate their attack and place units either next to my capital's culture or 1 tile within its culture this turn.
So, DIM, feel free to move your warrior to that grass hill at any time (maybe sooner is better).
There isn't much I can do about tipping them off about that warrior - I want to put pressure (not much ) on their capital as soon as possible and that means moving now. Anything else leaves me vulnerable to double moving them or missing out on my warrior move.
Cheers,
Ruff

I have moved Belit and we have just met the Inca, they are currently
on 6E but they haven't moved yet.

Quote:Right where I expected them to be. You cannot tell if another civ's units have moved or not - the game doesn't reveal that information.
Thanks for the intel.
I am messing with their minds ... sent them this "I've finished my turn so you guys are free to move your units now."

Actually, they haven't logged in yet, so its safe to assume they
haven't moved yet
We aren't going to send them anything yet. We'll just see if Inca take
the bait (a chariot outside their intended DOW target) and spill
something or not.

Quote:Ruff,
When you mentioned moving to the grass hill, I take it you mean the one 2N from your warrior's position on the screenshot you sent us? Maybe you could use our warrior (renamed Francisco Pizarro for the occassion) as cover, and Inca wouldn't see your unit right away. Pizarro will be moving N this turn.
We've met Inca last turn, but haven't sent them a greeting yet, and so far, we haven't received a message from them.
Let's hope the ruse works.
Ilios - DIM
So we might need to reply there, and we should also come up with something to tell Exploit
