Alas, I have failed:
Quote:Hello All,
With all respect and politeness, we will be declining your offer to have us join the alliance. I know this is contrary to what I discussed with Rego last night, but at the time we did have very strong leanings towards accepting it so at the time it was not meant to be misleading. However now I guess it is for which I apologize.
Anyways time is of the essence, but i've played the turn for us and Ruff normally logs in in the morning so with the timer where it is he can still make any changes as he needs to. We've also abided by the no pillage no kill agreement for the turn.
Our reasons are only a couple.
Firstly if we join the alliance, we feel we would be last one in, first one out.
Secondly we think it would be more fun to go down early in a blaze of glory (if we have to face some uber-alliance) rather than play it out only to get tag-teamed/dogpiled later.
Hopefully you understand our position.

Chat we had with Inca
Quote:me: hi
JANK: hey
athlete here
me: regoarrarr
fearing bad news
JANK: ya it is sorry
it's probably not hard to guess given our in game actions and whipping
formal response is almsot done
me: darrell: haven't logged into the game
JANK: i figured civstats
me: (darrell nad i are i guess both logged in to this account)
darrell: well...for us it means no tech trading in the near future but doesn't preclude other types of cooperation and maybe longer term tech trades
Sent at 10:12 PM on Thursday
JANK: well if this alliance is only a short term thing then ya that's how it goes...
but if your units or somebody starts helping ruff then we'd have to consider that as well
of course if you wanted to dogpile ruff now and we could split the land
me: lol
JANK: that would be quite fun
me: darrell: heh-heh...this is an Incan/Aztec affair
darrell: where is Krill's popcorn icon when you need it?
JANK: /agreed
lol
so can we atleast assume the aztecs won't be receiving help from you for the duration of the war?
me: i'm not sure i'd assume that
JANK: and be correct in teh assumption?
fair enough
me: darrell: yeah...we have enough on our hands right now but in the future we might have to get involved.
darrell: it really depends on how things go between you two, and how things go between us
darrell: right now we're Cautious
JANK: can't say as we would expect anything more at this point
me: darrell: does that make sense? I don't want things to be ambiguous in a matter as delicate as this
JANK: but cautious is better than we're coming to his aid immediately
me: darrell: yeah...we've got other things to spend our hammers on right now.
JANK: like settlers?
lol
it seems on higher difficulties the economic penalty for waging war is more sever
e
i don't recall it being this bad in rbpb2
me: darrell: yeah dude...to be perfectly frank I think you are screwing up. Darrell talking not INdia.
darrell: I mean, I just dont see the gain.
darrell: there's enough land to expand into (especially for us with Krill killing Korea)
darrell: and you guys are Joao of the Incas.
darrell: Sorry to get on a soapbox
JANK: lol np
it was a group decision to rush really...and perhaps it would have been a holy city with warriors again
me: darrell: heh-heh...its our fault again
darrell: we spoiled you with our idiocy!
JANK: lol true enough
me: darrell: well, like I said . If at any point in the future you want to mediate we are willing to act as a messenger.
darrell: Not sure if it will work, it was a pain getting Ruff to come to the table this time, but who can say what the future brings.
JANK: ya...I think Ruff will be in it for good now...he'll want help ridding the world of us...should be fun!
still...if something changes the offer is appreciated
me: darrell: cool...I got to roll. As we say in India, PARTY ON!
JANK: Party On!!! Let the good times roll...
later!

Okay modified the draft to rome
Quote:SsS's
As has been the norm for diplomacy from your team, even when you're giving us bad news, you give it with the utmost class so !
We apologize that our reply is a bit late - but we were trying to broker peace between Incans and Aztecs, which apparently has failed...
So anyways, would you be willing to share anything about your side of things? We understand that you may not be able to or want to share, but we are willing to reciprocate with the same level of detail. To start things off, we are in at least the early stages of an alliance (call it an understanding?) with HRE, Portugal and Aztecs. We thought that it would make an attractive pairing for Rome, since it seals off one side of your border and would allow you to have a friendly backside while using your mighty Praetorian Guard elsewhere. But we can understand.
The key to any early agreements in a tech trading game seems to be alphabet, and that is in fact our group's goal. Are we correct in assuming that Exploit is researching Alphabet for you? We weren't sure since he seems to be playing more of the "aloof trader" game.
We understand if you feel the need to be coy or vague. While we prefer to be more of "straight shooters" (and hopefully you've seen that from our previous emails), we understand if you need to keep things close to the vest.
Hope to hear from you soon and PARTY ON!

Draft to Exploit
Quote:Hi Exploit,
First of all, we apologize for the slight delay in our response - things have been a bit crazy for us - we have been trying to broker peace between Aztecs and Inca, which as you probably saw from the email / IT thread, has failed. Guess we'll have to see how that goes for us. It's our general feeling that it's a waste of time for the Incas to be declaring war this early but maybe they'll pull it off. I'm pretty sure it worked out okay for them in RPB2, to our team's detriment :-(
Now that we assume you have researched Hunting as you said earlier, we hope that your defenses of Vultures and Spearmen allow you to feel comfortable that your peddling shops will remain open for some time!
Lastly, we would like to propose something about EP spending. Other civs in the game have proposed an agreement to level off at 43 EP apiece, which is the amount which lets us each see each others' graphs, and we would like to propose the same with you. We understand the importance of city visibility, but last time I checked, it will take about 190 EP for us to see Bison Pass. Assuming your rates are similar, at 4EP/t, that's going to take over 40 turns, even assuming you meet no other neighbors (to split EPs) and we spend no additional EPs on you (raising the cost). We understand your UB may soon be in play, but it still seems like it will be a long time
Hope to hear from you soon and PARTY ON!

Draft to Portugal
Quote:Hi Dantski / Muhka,
A few things that we were wondering about -
1) We saw the location of your city of Scales and didn't realize we were so close! We have no problems with the city that you planted there - it's clearly in your sphere of influence. But since we're starting to border each other, we thought it might be worth opening up talks over that area. Do you have plans to settle any north or east of Scales?
2) Do you have a warrior that you could send up towards Exploit and do a little scouting? Specifically to the location of his copper, which we saw a source of around 4 SW of his capital. If he settles a city there we'd love to know that
PARTY ON

Email from "George Cockrell"
Quote:Greetings oh people of India. Salthi, our drunken charioteer, has noticed your cute little civilization. Are you good dj's. Do you play classic rock, or do you play crap like Brittney and Hanna Montana or... god forbid... country? Surely Indian's wouldn't play cowboy music?
Anyway, he was thinking of dropping by to have a look for himself, but we convinced him not to. After all, we wouldn't want to commit a diplomatic faux-paw on first contact now would we?
We've been wandering the world in search of gourmet mice, but so far, haven't found anyone who claims to have some? Do you? If so, we'd really like to be friends. We've recently acquired some cows, and would be willing to trade milk (both whole and 2%) if this is agreeable to you. Let us know at your earliest conveniece. In the meantime...
Have a Mice Day!
This civ naming stuff is really starting to piss me off
