Okay a few thoughts -

a) for our reply, if we want to send one - what more did they want from us? Was their email all lies, just bluffing to try and get info out of us? Feels a little insincere to say that they "We REALLY don't want to get involved in an early war, but as you can imagine, certain parties are very eager for us to do so. We'll avoid it if we can, but it would really, really help to have a concrete alternative that doesn't end with us being totally isolated.
Questions I'm hoping you can answer, from least to most important: What tech did you have in mind? When do you expect to have alpha? Are you prepared to form a serious alliance with our civ that will last deep (a hundred turns or more) into the game?"

2) We shouldn't accept peace (assuming we can deal with that chariot) - I think with our (sunrise's) MP experience, with sentries and such that we can handle a war better than they can

3) We have nothing that can stop that chariot

4) Now that we don't HAVE a 4th city to use our workers on, I think we need 4 workers to connect the horse on T63

5) Can we still afford to go after Exploit?

Workers certainly have to be all out for getting the Horse up. Sunrise should be the turnplayer.

What a bummer, but even with their e-mails I had already kind of prep'd myself for it.

Reading the e-mail they sent us, I think we should just try and grab a quick peace, secure a NAP, and ask them not to give the Chariot to Exploit. Let's focus on taking Exploit out and recovering as best we can.

Makes you wonder what they expect to gain from this war.
I can see 2 reasons:
a) there is already a counter-alliance in the working and they try to slow your alliance with any means possible (hence the inca-aztec war and this attack)
b) they want the copper for themself. Do you know where they are located? can you guess from the screenshots of the other civs how the copper might be dispersed?

From their e-mail I think they don't like the concept of an alliance game and are doing whatever they can to hurt the uber alliance. It felt honest.

TBH, this isn't what I was looking for either. Its very little civ and lots of diplomacy. If I ever play one of these again it will be an AW team game smile. I don't think I'll be taking over as turn player after the war is over. I feel responsible for what's happened. The whole fast expansion thing was mostly my fault. I flubbed the diplo with Rome, then the Incans, and now the Mayans. I agreed to skip the Wheel and Archery in favor of Masonry, leaving us with Warriors for defense. Heh...you guys didn't even need to try, I set myself up as the fall guy bang.

They are nowhere near us - they're on the other side of the desert and not even directly above us.

I think it has to be more along the lines of a)
