Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

I read through the chat with Portugal, I'm still confused as to why they wouldn't be sending those units at us. Something is off but I'm not sure what. I guess it doesn't really matter because we will have Spraets available to us very soon.

Here's my attempt at a response to Cath Bruig, I did not send it yet. Is it ok?

Quote:Dear Cath Bruig,

I will get straight to the point. We still have not made any official agreement to join either CAN nor CANT, but we have decided that it is in our best interest to side with CANT. We would most certainly be in a better position short-term by joining your alliance, but looking at the moral side of things we prefer to side with the counter-alliance for the following reasons;

- 9 vs 7 is more fair than 10 vs 6.
- We do not like large tech blocs and CAN is the cause of their unwanted occurrance.
- We do not trust DJ's way of running diplomacy.
- Only one of the four CAN civs we have met is actually returning our emails.
- All four of the CANT civs we have met are responding to our emails, usually without much delay.
- The CANT civs express dislike for large tech blocs so we feel we can be among equals.

As you know we would have prefered a different alliance structure to take place, though the folly of trying to claim neutrality is obvious to everyone. So I suppose that we are now enemies. I could apologise for not allying with you but I do not believe that there is anything to apologise for. CAN is by definition the "bad guys" for anyone who do not want this large tech bloc gameplay so we get to (role)play the "good guys" from here on. I suppose there is no use trying to turn you against DJ and the rest of CAN, but you cannot deny that an 8 vs 8 situation would make things more exciting...

I like it, looks great to send. Wasn't there a comment made by regoarrar awhile back about India eventually turning on Portugal? If we can find that, that might be fun to tack on to the end of the email, just to turn the screws on them a little bit...

Cool idea, I'll see if I can find it.smile

I just skimmed through a couple chats but I don't see anything... I'll keep looking too.

The closest thing to it that I could find was this:

Quote:12:21 PM me: either way, I suppose attacking dantski is definitly out of question? their cities seems to be on hills either way, which could cause some pain
12:22 PM DJ: i wouldn't say it's out of the question

But that's not quite as solid as what I was hoping for... Thought there was something more concrete than that...

Oh yeah - another thing. We have contact with France right? I don't know if you saw this email from Byz yet:

Quote:As an appendum, I believe the Civ referred to by Cath Bruig may be France. Looking at the score, they haven't made the jump that other Hydra teams have so it looks like they've been left out of the tech trading loop. As best as we can tell, our scouting chariot is currently east of their borders and if we do contact them, we may want to see if they can be persuaded to join us instead.

-SleepingMoogle

Basically it sounds like France might be the "odd man out" in the Hydra. We might consider talking to them ourselves and filling them in that the Hydra may backstab them... Worst-case scenario, they don't believe us and it doesn't hurt us. Best-case scenario, they join our side. Thoughts?

Yeah, sadly the context of the entire chat (discussion of how their alliance with Cath Bruig looks like) is what makes that response from DJ stand out, but I can't put the entire chat in there...

Worth putting it in like this? Or skip it?

Quote:5:21 PM me: either way, I suppose attacking dantski is definitly out of question?
5:22 PM DJ: i wouldn't say it's out of the question
but less attractive to us

About France; I'd say it's hard to do much of anything as long as we do not know for sure whom Cath Bruig is referring to.

It's pretty weak, but I say throw it in just for kicks -what've we got to lose. I'd say there's like a 20% chance it actually affects them at all, but something like this:

Quote:P.S. - For a brief taste of the kind of diplomacy your "allies" in CAN use that was a big turn-off for us, here's a nice quote from regoarrar about you guys:

5:21 PM me: either way, I suppose attacking dantski is definitly out of question?
5:22 PM DJ: i wouldn't say it's out of the question
but less attractive to us

This was us trying to determine how close you and India are, and apparently the answer is "not very"... Regoarrar flat-out admits they would consider attacking you. If you trust them, then great! We'll be working with people who don't plot against their allies, and if you would like to do so as well, please don't hesitate to send us a message smile.

It's slightly snide, but I think it'll make the point. We can skip it, I just think it might add a bit of doubt in the back of their minds...
