Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Horselover Fat's journal - Iskender and the Hippus

I've done some testing in the WorldBuilder and it seems that goblin archers never leave forts. Even if there were 20+ archers next to an undefended city. Spears on the other hand seem to leave immediately if there are 3 units or more in the tile.

So I guess i'll just have to put up with a noisy neigborhood.

Man I could swear they have left forts and attacked me but I'm not sure what the circumstances were huh.

I also think archers have left forts. Did you test archers+spears?

I have added a few spears to a dozen or so archers and the next turn all of the spears left, while the archers stayed.

Like I said earlier, Archers do leave their forts, but only to fortify inside barbarian cities. Should a barb city pop up near the Hippus, you can expect it to become very well defended...smile

Some ideas on what to do next:

Basically I have two choices: rush or REX. Lets analyse the former:

It is quite late for a warrior+warcry rush, although demographics show that neither Selrahc nor Sareln have archers I guess they are not far away from at least getting the tech and would be ready when the warriors arrive.

A horsemen rush doesn't also doesn't realy suit me. It would mean that crafting and mining were being researched in vain, and of course getting horseback riding would take at least 20 more turns, not to mention getting those horsies trained.

I was considering a bronze warrior+warcry rush if there's copper nearby. A wave of strength 5 warriors should be able to grab few cities. But then again I guess there's really not much to gain by this. I have no idea how far away my neigbors are, in the worst case i gain few distant cities crippling the economy in the process.

So I guess I'll keep on REXing and go for agristocracy and then stirrups, postponing the fun until Horse Archers come into play.

I guess it's not news to you my dear lurkers and it shouldn't be suprising for me either:

It takes me 19 turns to research archery. If Selrahc rushes now, by the time he arrives i'll still have only warriors for defense.

I'm going to gamble and delay archery in favour of economy. In case of emergency I still have warcry. Also, I let Selrahc know that I haven't missed the completion of the white hand, so there's no surprise factor in attacking me.

Neither goblin archers nor priests of winter are threat no more. I have found the solution:

Now let's gate in some horsemen.
