Oh god, that's ice. Ice as in floating ice on the water, not the ice tile. Oops ><
Hahaha my bad. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite me :P

My second work boat is finished! Construction has now turned... into a settler!
Yes, a Settler without worker, but i believe it's sound. I have 3 warriors playing escort, a backup warrior, and my base location is merely 4 spaces away. That base will also need to build a lot of work boats, so why not start now?

A settler well before a worker is perfectly legitimate Lanun play. I am reminded of a Lanun game where I took stock of my situation a hundred or so turns in, and realized that I have not built a single farm, only a few mines. All my cities were coastal.
Where are you sending the settler? Do you have a dotmap in mind?
Also, what's your tech path?

I'm teching Ancient Chants --> Mystism or something like that now for the God King. Probably getting Exploration next for roads, then OO.
Also, i decided to get in a Warrior first, so i can explore that Dungeon. I won't have any city defense for a short while, but there's a warrior 2 tiles away who can move to save it.
Dotmap: I'm thinking of getting that Pigs/Incense spot first. It gets a whole lot of lakes, connection to the ocean for work boats (There's a clams there to guarantee it) and acts as a natural border to the right. It's 4 spaces away from my capital, and there are 3 warriors playing escort.

I assume you'll want crafting, mining, farming, and calendar before OO as well :P
Actually, why do you want OO at all? I thought you really wanted Chalid and the Empyrean, or the Veil. OO is kind of a random diversion, and doesn't really add anything for your civ. You don't need the shrine's water mana, the priests suck, and the temple is the weakest of the lot unless you're going for a culture win. OO is fantastic for island-based maps, but I don't think that's what you're dealing with here. If you really want Chalid badly still, you should stay more focused on his tech path. There's a lot of techs you'll need, some of them are expensive (especially monotheism), and you'll ideally also want to have lots of Sun nodes up, which means requiring even more research.
Make sure you completely surround the Dungeon before exploring

Oh sure, the Dungeon will be completely surrounded (just 3 spaces!) and will be explored by a level 2 unit (my starting warrior!)
I normally branch into OO for the drowns, and well, security. Bear in mind there's a Doviello running around just waiting for someone to shower his Lucian/Sons of Asena to, and Drowns are a good protection (better then warriors!).
And... i might be building 3 settlers before the Worker :P Those are really good city spots, and once they have the coves out i'll be swimming in GNP and Food and Commerce (not production though!)

Actually I think that warriors are as good if not better for defense than Drown, since they have that inherent city defense bonus and are a lot cheaper to produce. The Drown and the Overlords have their merits, but they really are a fairly large tech diversion for so early in the game. If defense is a really major concern (and you think that warriors won't cut it), then you could instead invest in archery instead. Archery is cheaper than OO, allows you to build lumber mills to get some use out of the tundra forests, and archery ranges increase the city defense bonus.
Oh also, I'm pretty sure that any Drown you build will disappear once you convert to a different religion, making them ultimately a rather sad waste of hammers. Plus they don't even give military happiness.

Nope, they don't disappear. Even Stygians don't disappear. I know that quite well from my experiences playing OO with Lanun all the time.
Let's face it, Commerce is the one thing Lanun has in abundance (And food i guess). I dislike Archery due to the fact that they can't attack out, all they can do is bunker in cities. Although an option is to tech to Bronze and build Swords instead i guess.

Ding! Was that an upgrade to a pirate cove i hear?
Well, yes it is! One of the coves has been upgraded to a harbor or a port, forgot which. Probably port. Will show pics when the next one upgrades as well.
