Intro:

Einion was working in his lab, late one night, when his eyes beheld an eerie sight!  A monster from his Settler did arise, and then suddenly, to his surprise...  [To Be Continued! ]

Scenario / Rules:

You start with one unit, a Settler who can summon a Flesh Golem, and nothing else.  How you parlay that into your ultimate triumph is at your discretion; there are no restrictions beyond those imposed via the map settings.

Gimmicks and surprises abound!

Concerning the scenario difficulty level- Expect a challenge.  The map has been playtested to ensure it is beatable within a reasonable margin of error, but only the unbound stupidity of your opponents and your willingness to mercilessly exploit the same will prevent them from crushing you like a particularly fragile insect.

Players who are eliminated are encouraged to try again; if reporting a subsequent attempt, simply flag it as a shadow game in your thread title, where it will be categorized as such in the final player rankings.

Scoring:

This game uses a simple points-based ranking system:  1 point will awarded per promotion on your Flesh Golem at the time of victory.

That includes any promotion; equipment, maluses, doesn't matter- if it's shown in the box for your Flesh Golem where promotions are displayed when mousing over the unit, it counts.  Promotions which are part of the same line (such as Combat 1-5) each qualify for one point.

In the event you have multiple Flesh Golems, just pick your best.  If your Flesh Golem dies, summon a new one.  If you for whatever reason don't have any Flesh Golems when you win, you'll still be listed among the victors, but with a score of 0.

Please document your Flesh Golem's promotions on the turn before victory via screen shot in your report (even if your report consists of nothing but).

Additionally, this Adventure will employ the (entirely optional) STARS (Symbolic Time-Annihilating Restrictive Scoring) achievement-like system!

* The Maroon Star of Movement is awarded to anyone who possesses a Flesh Golem with at least 11 moves (only need to be available for a single turn).

* The Silver Star of Strength is awarded to anyone who obtains a base (before percentage modifiers) attack (not defense) strength on a Flesh Golem of at least 40.

* The Orange Star of Obstinacy is awarded to anyone who manages to win without ever summoning a Flesh Golem.

Closing Day: Saturday, October 31, 2020. Reports for scoring purposes are due by the end of Monday, November 2, your local time.  Reports are allowed before the deadline, provided they are marked and encased in spoiler tags appropriately.

Please post reports in the Civ 4 Events subforum.

Already started, looks like a lot of fun. Just to confirm, it is intentional that we can't build Settlers, right?

Correct. It's still theoretically possible to obtain one via an event; if you're lucky enough to aquire another its yours to use as you see fit.

Looks and sounds fantastic yet again and I've only read the setup (can't play just yet)! So this time fastest victory turn doesn't matter (just making sure I understood correctly)?

Correct, victory date doesn't matter- you do need to actually win though at some point to count for scoring though, so attempts which are incomplete at deadline or somehow manage to lose via the Time victory condition aren't eligible.

I'd like to give this a shot, but I've had no luck getting EitB installed under Windows 10.

Do I need to install base FFH first? It's been a long time since I've messed about with Civ 4 mods..... wink

I need both regular EitB v12 (found in the stickied download thread in the EitB subforum here) + v12.1 installed in a separate folder to get 12.1 (and hence the save) to work.

Not sure if you need base FFH in a third folder as well, I do have it though.

I recommend not installing to the default Program Files, but instead just to the root C: drive. On my computers, it's c:\Sid Meier's Civilization 4

Not sure if this is your issue but I also had problems getting 12.1 working. What worked for me was:

Installed Erebus_in_the_Balance_v12.exe and tested that the mod v12 works (it did)
The installer created the following directories:
Beyond the Sword\Mods\Erebus in the Balance
Beyond the Sword\Mods\Erebus in the Balance v12

Downloaded the 12.1 files (Version 12.1 FIXED) and manually copied them to the corresponding Assets locations in Beyond the Sword\Mods\Erebus in the Balance v12

This overwrote the existing files apart from one (CIV4BuildingInfos.xml)

Renamed the Beyond the Sword\Mods\Erebus in the Balance v12 folder to Beyond the Sword\Mods\Erebus in the Balance v12.1

Launched Erebus in the Balance v12.1 mod and... it worked. I was then able to open Bob's save.

Hope this helps.

I've got it figured out, didn't need base FFH just 12 installed properly and then 12.1 copied into the right folder inside the v12 folder (renamed to 12.1) .  Thanks. :smile

I've had Civ 4 installed for a few years on this machine (under "Program files (x86)") and it works ok other than having to give admin permission to copy anything.  Install from CD was a PITA involving running the installer as administrator in WinXP mode....nightmare figuring that one out.  wink
