Sulieman of Inca - Malakai (Green Game)

Ok firstly, I would like to say welcome to any lurkers to happen onto this thread.

I have never played a multi player game before...hell I have only played a few single player games but yeah I have no idea at all what normally goes into these threads but I will try and post here when I can.

So far I have not had my first game, so not able to comment on anything at the moment.

Anyway I will post a bit more once I have had my go and have had a chance to look at my starting location.

A question for any lurkers...what kinda stuff would you like to see included in this thread? And do you have any guidance for a nub?

Well the number one request is screenshots of your empire. You can take screenshots in game by pressing print screen, they show up in your My Games\Beyond the Sword\ScreenShots folder. You can then upload them to a free hosting service such as imageshack.us, copy the url to the uploaded images, and include them in your reports here.

Thanks for joining the game, by the way!
I have to run.

Ok guys, my thread does not seem very active at the moment, so I thought I would start to share my thoughts about the game. I cannot say too much or include any exciting screen shots as I have not had a turn so I do not even know what my starting area looks like yet.

However as I thought I would share a picture of myself:

And also some thoughts about what I plan to do early in the game.

Firstly, I will probably send my warrior in the direction of a hill or river depending on what I can see in the starting area, to investigate possible city locations.

I hope to found my first city on the first turn to prevent delays on research and growth, so I will try and determine the best spot within 1 square of my start location.

If I do not like any spots that close I might have to delay by a maximum of one turn, but I really would rather avoid that.

First thing I intend to build in the city is a worker, if someone does decide to rush me early on I still have my starting warrior and can produce another military unit in just a few turns. This will allow me to begin to hook up any food resources as my top priority.

I think only two people in the game including myself start with the option of researching religions, so if I for one off the bat, I have AT LEAST a 50% chance of being the first to found it. So I plan to go for meditation as thats the quickest and should still give me a few turns to start on my next research before I have a worker ready.

I don't think this will slow me down too much on anything else, as I cannot really start to do too much else until I have my first worker.

I cannot really plan much more than this until I see my starting location, I am just hoping that its a good start with some nice resources.

I have to say I am a little worried that I am probably the player in this game with the least multi player experience (seeing as I have only ever played single player!), and this also gives me another downside, that I have not seen any of these players in action, where as its possible that some of these players have met each other in previous PBEM or Pittboss games on here.

Question for any lurkers who knows this kind of thing...am I allowed to look at the pittboss and other 3 PBEM games to see if I can learn about these players and their normal play style (if they are playing in any others that is)?

I PROMISE I will put up a screen shot of my starting area once we get the game going so you all have something exciting to look at.

Naming:-

I think I will call my towns:-

<insert word or colour> Rose

Examples:
Blood Rose
Black Rose
Blue Rose
White Rose
Pink Rose

And maybe something different for towns near the waters edge...maybe something like <insert word/colour> Pearl?

What does everyone think...or does anything have a better idea?

Also thinking about naming my troops and am willing to accept suggestions for what I should call them...should their be a re-occuring theme for these?

Should the theme be different for different troop types?

Yeah, feel free to check up other people's threads for other games and see what info you can derive, if nothing else they'll appreciate the increase in view counts smile

Ok guys, this is the moment you have all been waiting for...

This is how my starting location looks
[Image: startinglocation.png]

I decided to move my warrior first, towards the higher ground where I could already see some stone, to search for possible second city locations.

And I feel that getting that first town in place as quickly as possible is important, so I wanted to found it without 1 square of my settler's starting location. I chose to move him 1 square north meaning that when my culture gets its first pop I will have food an animals within my cultural border...unfortunately that meant moving off the hill and sacrificing a defensive bonus...but I will need that corn to grow.

This is how the map looks after those movements, unfortunately the extra visibility around the first town does not seem to have revealed much due to the shape of the terrain, but still this start does not seem too bad.

And so there it is...my first ever turn on a 6 player civ game!

(Cannot say that its my first multi player anymore, got one of my friends to get civ so I could at least get some multi player experience in over the weekend, and we have been playing with 2 players and 4 ai's...I know its not the same by a long shot, but its a start).

PS: sorry if the maps look a bit messy...I am sure I will get better at that part of things as well :P

You will notice I have not named my town yet as I am still undecided (and waiting for some feedback on my idea, or any other suggestions) and tbh it was not the first thing on my mind while i was playing lol.

Ok, don't think I will bother posting screenies every turn, not really crucial unless I uncover something particularly exciting.

Anyway I moved to the hills NE of my last location...and based on how far away from the hill i am seeing it looks like i am near the northern edge of the map, so I guess that means I only have to worry about threats from the other three sides really...always good to know.

Ok I said I was not going to post any screenies unless I uncovered anything particularly exciting and I think that this probably qualifies.

Ok as you can see one of Seifer's warriors has reached my lands, he arrived from the east and as he did so sent a diplomatic message, over the last few turns we have had a little conversation which I will include further down this post.

He has begun to loop to the south indicating he is scouting the area...and from his messages he appears to want friendly relations between our civilisations.

I have to say I am surprised to have me him so soon, my warrior only had chance to do very little scouting and we are only about 10 turns in...as warriors only have a move of one that means his cultural border can only be about 10 squares from mine?!?

I was expecting alot more space than that....so it seems that the map is not a very big one specially as I am already bordered by the water to the south and the maps edge to the north.

This makes me think that grabbing early cities will be essential for growth...but I do not know how much space I have to the west yet.

Anyway on the image I have circles off two areas I am interested in scouting further to consider the location of a possible second city site.

In all honesty I am most interested in the lands to the north west as I can already see two flood plains near the resources in that direction, that looks very tasty as I have only uncovered about 3 of them in total so far.

I was thinking of a settler second...BUT now his warrior is close by (even though he seems friendly at the moment), if i leave a city unprotected with other civs close by I could easily lose this game before its even begun...the loss of a second city or a settler this early on would be devastating!

I am therefore changing my initial thoughts and building a Quchua so I can keep a settler protected as well as my second city when its founded.

That reminds me...a question for lurkers and the map designer...wasn't I meant to start with a Quechua instead of a Warrior as they are my civ's replacement for a warrior it therefore makes no sense i should ever have one??

Anyway I am not going to dwell on it as hopefully this one thing will not have too big an impact but it would have helped early on.

I am probably going to build a settler as my third build in city 1...which is still to be renamed as no one has commented on a naming scheme yet :P

BUT I might START a second Quechua after the first just for a turn or two as I think I can get the city to size 3 before building the settler if I do that.

I also note that Kyan has taken an early lead on points and am wondering what he chose to build/research to which has given him a headstart.
