[SPOILERS] FFH PBEM XVI Lurker Thread

Barring some dumb mistake by yours truly here while doing the map, the game should start soon.
I decided to give the settlers with starting bonus so its easier for the non-lanun players to choose between settling near the coast or inland (safety against raging seas, for example). The coastal start will definetely give a head start on the settling of the off shore islands (albeit a proper set of developed cities in the mainland can be enough for a win, in my opinion), which have some exclusive resources. Hope the map will work out as intended, with a period of peaceful expansion/development, followed by some navy and land based combat!
Can't wait to see the reaction of the players when they found out about the mountain passes (and the giants) blocking them from other players share of land. Hopefully they won't have a problem with it, especially since they wanted a builder game.
I don't see a lot of settling happening in the center island, even with the exclusive resources. It'd probably be overkill to do it (there's a lot of land in the map already). But let's see. The outside islands are going to be decisive for warring in the outside sea, since it's important to have bases where you can hide your ships, place hawks and things like that.
So, do you think the Lanun will develop into an unreacheable lead or do you think there's chance for the other players? I'm worried that I made things to good for the lanun... I was a bit touched by Mardoc' reaction when they gave up on playing the previous game, so maybe I made the map too Lanun friendly.
I hope things will get more interesting later... Anyway, maybe this will show that the new Falamar is too strong... I don't know.... We will see... Don't write the game off yet. I haven't really got a good sense of the map though. Are you thinking what.. they'll manage to complete Tower of Mastery before another team can launch a strike? How isolated is everybody? Selrahc Wrote:Lanun pushing ahead early is expected. Don't write the game off yet. There are short land access guarded by hill giants with two neighboors and long land acess through the middle islands between all the players. There's also access through the outside sea and inner sea (only the 2 neighboors). The most distant player through land is very near through water, due to the Toroidal nature of the map.
Re: City #2 for the Lanun, I'd settle on top of the cotton. It's a crap tile when improved, but settling on top gives +1c and leaves more land for cottaging/aristofarming.
So, yawny as the game is, nobody seems particularly inclined to go for a ToM win. It would be utterly overstepping the global lurker bounds to suggest they ban the quick victory, wouldn't it?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
