Here begins the epic tale of Nyania...
[/SIZE]

It should be an exciting ride! Let's hope it doesn't end prematurely... although given our relatively crappy civ/leader and track record of being a target, there's probably a greater than average chance it will. We'll see anyway.

WARNING: Anyone actually PLAYING in this game, now would be your cue to leave this thread. wink

Feel free to read through after the game has ended... but not before!

Bye now. smile

So, we're Roosevelt of Ethiopia. Organized (meh), Industrious (meh), a +25% culture Monument (meh), and a Musketman with free Drill I & II (great if we can survive that long). Overall we could have done considerably better, but we could have also done a lot worse, so I'm not too concerned. I think our starting geography (and strategic resources or lack thereof) will have more of an influence on our standing in the game than our mediocre civ/leader.

The full list of civs, along with my rough ranking:

Top tier:
Nakor, Tatan & Serdoa are Darius of Rome
TEAM FFH is Hannibal of Mali
Slowcheetah is Wang Kon of Inca

Above average tier:
Sunrise is Genghis of Egypt
Yuris is Joao of Persia
ASMonkey is Hatty of Mongolia
HitAnyKey is Brennus of Ottoman
Lewwyn is Boudica of Korea

Average tier (roughly in order from most OK to least OK):
Plako is Mehmed of Netherlands
Pindicator is Lincoln of China
Catwalk is Shaka of Aztec
Moogle is Peter of England
Azza is Washington of Viking
Team Googly is Louis of Carthage
Team Nyan are FDR of Ethiopia
Meiz is Gandhi of Khmer
Xenu is Mao of Native America
Mack and Seven are Justin of Germany

(Yes, I'm incorrectly defining the "average". tongue )

We're going for a meme-centred naming theme for our cities. Anything along the lines of a meme, or even vaguely resembling one, is fair game for a name. For example:

*Nyan City
*Trololo / Trololopolis
Numa Numa
Llama Duck
Lolcat
Maru City
Badger Mushroom
Equestria
Friday
Miku City
PBJ
Rickroll
Ponyville
Over9000
Leeroy
Memetropolis
Meltdown
You're the man now dog (YTMND)
~Angry Chipmunk
*Double Rainbow
*Hide Yo Kids
*Hide Yo Wife
*Hide Yo Husband
*Your Johnson
Boombox
The Game
Awkward Penguin
Forever Alone
Not Bad
Y U NO
That's What She Said (TWSS)
One Direction
*Immachargin
Mahlaser
Shoopdawoop

(For captured cities)
*All Your Base Are Belong To Us (Aybabtu)
*Pwnage
Sonic Boom
Troll Face
Deal With It

Lurker suggestions are absolutely encouraged! Beyond our capital (Nyan City) and starting units (Rainbow Dash and Hadouken), every name choice can be influenced by the lurkers' opinions. So if you have an idea for a new name - or want to vote for one already listed - speak up. There's no such thing as too many ideas... if we don't have enough cities to use all the names, we can always use more names for units.

Might we annoy the hell out of some people with our naming scheme? Quite possibly. But what the heck, we're here to have fun. tongue

Looking at starting techs, we got Hunting and Mining. Mining is great... a versatile tech with a good improvement, putting us close to Bronze Working right off the bat. Hunting is more average, but at least it allows us instant access to Animal Husbandry if we want it (which we might if we have livestock and no grains at our start). On the whole not too bad.

Here's the count of starting techs amongst all the civs:

Sunrise is Genghis of Egypt - Agriculture/The Wheel
Plako is Mehmed of Netherlands - Fishing/Agriculture
TEAM FFH is Hannibal of Mali - The Wheel/Mining
Slowcheetah is Wang Kon of Inca - Mysticism/Agriculture
Nakor, Tatan & Serdoa are Darius of Rome - Fishing/Mining
Team Googly is Louis of Carthage - Fishing/Mining
Pindicator is Lincoln of China - Agriculture/Mining
Mack and Seven are Justin of Germany - Hunting/Mining
Lewwyn is Boudica of Korea - Mysticism/Mining
Catwalk is Shaka of Aztec - Mysticism/Hunting
Xenu is Mao of Native America - Fishing/Agriculture
Team Nyan are FDR of Ethiopia - Hunting/Mining
ASMonkey is Hatty of Mongolia - The Wheel/Hunting
Moogle is Peter of England - Fishing/Mining
Yuris is Joao of Persia - Agriculture/Hunting
HitAnyKey is Brennus of Ottoman - The Wheel/Agriculture
Azza is Washington of Viking - Fishing/Hunting
Meiz is Gandhi of Khmer - Hunting/Mining

Totals:

Mining - 9
Agriculture - 7
Hunting - 7
Fishing - 6
The Wheel - 4
Mysticism - 3

Nothing particularly interesting there, aside from the fact that a surprisingly small number of players have a monopoly on Mysticism. Possibly a good chance that either Slowcheetah, Lewwyn and Catwalk will grab Buddhism and/or Hinduism in this game... we'll see.

The trait breakdown:

Expansive: 6
Charismatic: 5
Spiritual: 4
Financial: 3
Organized: 3
Philosophical: 3
Aggressive: 3
Imperialistic: 3
Creative: 2
Industrious: 2
Protective: 2

A surprisingly large number of Expansive civs (lucky them), as well as Charismatic and Spiritual civs (also good for them).

So we've got two of the least common traits. This could actually work for us, at least in the case of Industrious. Team Googly (Louis of Carthage) is the only other team with the Industrious trait, which works out quite well for us. Of course, we still won't be able to compete with civs that have Stone or Marble. But if we happen to have one of those resources, then all other things equal we'll have the fastest build speed on Stone or Marble wonders. And regardless, we'll build our National Wonders faster, and will have the fastest build speed on non-resource requiring wonders.

One thing to keep in mind is that Roosevelt is the leader with the theoretically best shot at the Great Lighthouse, given that he gets double build speed on both the wonder and the prerequisite Lighthouse. Of course, if we get an inland start, that's irrelevant anyway... and even if we don't it probably won't be a priority given the Always War and Pangaea landmass.

Aside from world wonders and national wonders, we'll get double build speed on: Forges (awesome), Courthouses (awesome), Lighthouses (pretty good), and Factories (great if we ever get to that point in the game).

I go to sleep and the main thread has 3+ new pages and LP has spammed this thread already. Weee~~

Anyway, my thoughts, in the form of an edited Skype-chat log:
[11:22:12] Nebez Kassem: Those Steele will be nice and the IND trait can give us a decently early Heroic Epic
[11:22:26] evilparkin: Indeed, hope so
[11:22:46] evilparkin: Marble could be even better than Stone for us, if we even get either
[11:22:52] Nebez Kassem: Org gives us cheap stuff, but not too useful on lower difficulties
[11:23:35] evilparkin: Yeah... kind of a boring main benefit IMHO, completely out of your control. Cheap buildings are nice though.
[11:24:48] Nebez Kassem: But the only one to matter is Lighthouse and that is honestly not a good thing on a Pangea-map
[11:28:15] evilparkin: Courthouse matters a bit
[11:28:20] Nebez Kassem: True
[11:28:53] Nebez Kassem: And it will have nice synergy with the Forbidden Palace and IND ;D
[11:29:35] evilparkin: True that...
[11:30:01] evilparkin: Need 8 cities though. Which is possible, though if we're unlucky we might have to fight for that many.

Other thoughts: We need to have a Guile Theme there somewhere. Maybe after an epic victory or some such. And have "Skogsturken" if we take a city from the Ottomans of Mehmed...Nyan~~

Also: In the everything goes diplo-thread, we need to finish every sentence with nya~~, nyan~~?

Heh, that could be an option.

[12:25:05 p.m.] Nebez Kassem: MY GAWD
[12:25:28 p.m.] Nebez Kassem: We have to end every sentence we say in the big thread with nyan~~
[12:25:37 p.m.] Nebez Kassem: What have you done!?
[12:25:57 p.m.] evilparkin: instant hate, heh
[12:25:59 p.m.] Nebez Kassem: You just gave the ADHD-dude an excuse to be annoying beyond belief
[12:26:03 p.m.] evilparkin: lol
[12:26:38 p.m.] evilparkin: Maybe our challenge can be "see how long you can last in the game while annoying the hell out of everyone".

Good stuff on the theme/meme ideas, keep them coming. wink

Pretty much, yeah, nya~~

Just checked out the Guile theme going with everything. Definitely a win there. Think we pretty much have to entitle a city or unit "Sonic Boom" at some point.

Maybe the unit that wins us the city Guile Theme, nyaa~~

Oh and if we settle a city in the jungle or some other disease ridden place, it needs to be called Bachelor Frog, nya~~
