Catwalk and me have discussed what our picks would be with the settings, more specificly the "One only of Fin/Exp/Inca/India."

and following our debates we've argeed that if it gets to us (not likely with us being 3'd pick but nonetheless), India is the most logical choice (with Ramses ideally) ... If that bypass us first pick is going to be Bismack with Mali ideally, but China (oracle MC, GE-bulb Machinery, and from there go to town could be a load of fun) and Ottomans are reasonable picks as well is close contenders as well

so ... Ideally

Ramses of India

or

Bismack of Mali/China/Ottoman

Picks so far are Huyna Capac (IND/FIN) and Willem (FIN/CRE). I have picked India per our discussions.

With one IND leader on the table, I think there's less merit in picking one ourselves. I would like to make another push for Gandhi (SPI/PHI) with an early Oracle/Pyramids gambit. Gandhi of India is excellently suited to pulling it off succesfully, and SPI pairs really well with a specialist economy.

EDIT: Pericles (CRE/PHI) would be another good option, more focused on expansion with easy borders and cheap libraries.

Pericles is a good pick as well ... but yeah ... with an Industrius allready being picked, the idea about Ramses fades out a bit

As of an idea of going for the same Oracle/Pyramid Gambit ... i believe it might be a bit to obvious, so i'd rather look another place, using our strength another place ... 'Mids have a tendency to paint a big red target on our backs, so it might be better to fly a bit more under the radar ...

An interesting shot could be Cathy (Cre/Imp) going for a massive REX with quick settlers, mobile workers and fast borderpops, getting more/better cities than everyone else, and using that for a war later on

With open diplo, I'm a lot less worried about painting a target on our backs. Any coalition forming against us will be fairly easy to spot ahead of time. I wouldn't be bored trying Pyramids again, and I think I have a lot to offer for this strategy since I have fresh mistakes to learn from smile

Gandhi (SPI/PHI) would be the funky version where we plan on switching civics a lot. I think this one would require a lot more micro management and careful planning. It's probably best suited for warfare and vertical growth. We're much more capable of generating whatever GPs we need, allowing for elaborate bulbing strategies.

Pericles (CRE/PHI) would be the ICS version where we just get a whole bunch of cities and put a library everywhere, with lots of grassland farms. 2 Rep scientists + trade routes is enough to make a city profitable and requires minimal terrain. GP generation will be a lot less controlled, lending itself well to GA chaining.

If we're to pursue a non-specialist strategy I think my top pick would be Hatshepsut (SPI/CRE) as we also talked about earlier. SPI gives a lot of long-term strength and flexibility and CRE is stronger than IMP imo.

I'm still open to other ideas, and I stand by my promise earlier that you will have full decision power for this game so we can resolve disagreements more easily. I'm not terribly keen on Catherine, unless we're intentionally trying to handicap ourselves. Being bigger than everybody else is just as likely to paint a target on our backs, and our traits do nothing to help us leverage our higher city count.

Point ...

Of those i believe the better choice would be Hatty to be honest ...

And the game is live!

Nice lush start with 3 grass hills around for good production too. I'm guessing we will want Agriculture first. Alternately, we could spend the first 3 turns on a warrior while working FP and go for Bronze Working. Then work a hill forest for a worker and get it out in time for BW to arrive. Would let us use the food from the FP towards growth instead of inefficiently on a worker. We can revolt into slavery right away, letting us whip a worker quite efficiently with food (14 food to grow to size 2 = 25 expansive hammers towards a worker). We'd also get out another warrior for increased security and harrassment potential.

Don't know where we should send our units. The land mass to the left of us looks like a peninsula, maybe send the warrior there and back and our scout NE to check out the rivers?

since we aren't Expansive (we're Hatty, remember?), then tell me 1(!!) good reason why not working flood plains till worker is done

lets see ... Mining/Mysticism

Argiculture->Fishing->BronzeWorking seems like the best choice techwise, and from there we can reconsider

growing on a Workboat (to net the fish) seems like the way to go from where i'm sitting ...

Worker->Warrior(till Fishing is in)->Workboat->Warriors (till size 3 or 4 ... not quite certain which is better offhand)

Worker should start with Farming Wheat, Mining Grasshill S of Wheat and then it should be around time to start chopping like nuts (doubt in the long term that the FP is going to be farmed unless the worker run out of logical things to do before starting to chop)

As for moving around with Units ... Warrior moves towards NW just to see if it is a Penisula (althrough preplaced cities suggest some ammount of Mirrorring, and seen below i'm doubting)

on the Scout ... probably the best thing would be to throw it towards the Forest to the ENE of the capital, and from there consider if it should explore North or South of the Coast there (on the Hills either 3NE or 1S3E of Capital)

When playing around with the map i notice a couple of things

its Toroid, by playing around with warrior moves i get a guesstimate number of 40x40 (1600 tiles all in all)

theres 1050 land tiles, which translate into ~550 Water tiles, hence theres not big bodies of water, but rather lakes thats big enough to count as saltwater (9+ tiles if memory serves)

So, as noted, i'm suscepting that all waters we see, is lakes, that might/not, be used as roadblocks leading land units into 'easily' defended choke points, and not bigger bodies of waters with Penisulas in them

Agreed, and agreed on unit movement as well.

Good observations about the map thumbsup
