Auto-subscribes
(October 15th, 2012, 20:03)T-hawk Wrote: Yeah rego, I got that too. Try User CP - Edit Options to change that behavior at the option named "Default Thread Subscription Mode". It can be either don't subscribe, or subscribe with email notification (very noisy), or subscribe without email notification (my favorite since you can browse subscribed threads from the User CP.)

PM has a bug possibly caused by the import from the old forum

Here's how to reset and reclaim your space

(October 17th, 2012, 12:09)Bigger Wrote: oy. so I had 72% full. I managed to delete "sent messages" which reduced it to 51%, but couldnt find any other messages. Apparently the switchover lost access to my inbox, but it still counted against the storage limit.

Anyway the solution is to "export" the messages. The option is under the "download messages" tab. make sure you check "delete exported messages." I would go ahead and export all of them, not just older than 30 days, since you can't read them anyway. you'll get an html popup (I think you can actually download the full messages if you really want to save them) so you can read them one more time. Then close the new window and you're done.

I got my percentage down from 72% to 1% this way. Not really sure what the 1% is (my guess - notifications to see if my pm's were read that I can't delete). But I can live with that.

The option is under User CP - Inbox - Download Messages

Nice, worked perfectly for me. I exported to html and saved the result to disk, so now I even have a backup of my previously unreadable pms.

Quote:Edited by KoP to make it Tip Worthy
It opened the export in another tab (Chrome), I then copied and pasted it in a Word document to save.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it before but please keep this thread clean so it's easy to find help. Post tips only smile
I have to run.

Does anybody know how to search a thread for all posts by a given user?

It's easy to view all posts by a user (from his profile page, or from the search menu), but I don't know how to filter it to a specific thread. The old way doesn't work anymore. If you click on the number of replies to a thread, you still get the breakdown of who posted, but you can't click on the number of posts by a given user to see the actual posts.

On another phpBB forum that I frequent, there's an awesome "toolbar" at the bottom of thread views:

So you can filter the thread view by user name very easily, and read the filtered posts in the regular thread view instead of as a search result page. Let's get this feature, please. smile

Please post your questions elsewhere :P

Doesn't the "Search Thread" feature @ the bottom of the page above "New Reply" work for you?

If I use that feature to search this thread for "KingOfPain" I get no hits. I want to be able to search this thread for posts by KingOfPain.

EDIT: Feel free to move these posts to another thread if you want this thread to be solutions-only.

I just got a hit of KingOfPain in this thread, and only 3 in the Welcome Back thread. That's the feature we want, just not working properly frown

Collapse and Expand
You can somewhat reduce the clutter of the forum if you find you don't usually frequent certain sections by collapsing the whole section. Lets say if you want to ignore the civ section altogether, just click on the "+ -" button on the right of the section header (as shown below)

How To Link A Specific Post In A Thread

You will find a Post # on each post, which is located on the right hand side on each post header bar. For Example, it should say Post: #7 for this post. Clicking on the #7 will make this post jump to top of the page, and the url will change to reflect that. Use the new url.

At KoP's request, writing up a quick note on the Screenshot and Embed tags.

displays your linked image resized to fit within 800x600, and includes javascript to make clicking on the image toggle it to or from full size.

[embed]http://www.youtube.com/embed/videoid[/embed]

shows a Youtube video embedded into the forum page. Make sure to use the embed URL from youtube, not the regular one with /watch/.
