Here is the starting BFC sandbox for you to look at and start planning, if you choose to do so. This accurately represents what the starting BFC will look like when you load into the game.
The file has any strategic resources stripped out (since you would not know those on turn 0). All non-BFC tiles are water, even ones you can see at the start.

Obviously, the leader/civ is randomly assigned wink

Doing okay so far. Not super good. w/e

Five is getting heavily developed. Kinda the cottage jewel of the empire. Library will get whipped there asap. Gold and Silver hooked up, next city is going north to culturally control the gems. Once that's in place, next settlers are going to my nearby islands. I really need a northern galley because I'm gonna want to expand to the northern islands in addition to my southern expansions. Three is just building military for defense, gonna pump out spears/axes.

This is kinda the reason I'm not doing as well as I wanted. This was my first settler. Right idea but bad execution I guess. This whole location is a very interesting tradeoff: settling on the grassland hill 1NW brings fish tile in, BUT if you settle where I did you get 6 grassland hills + grassland copper + 2 cows, which is just enough food to work them (and then farms/workshops down the road). It's a 27hpt city, which isn't insane by any means but it's by far every players best non-capital hammer site. Like not even close, this is really the only cluster of hammer tiles on the mainland outside of the capital. It's not even like there's a lot of plains tiles to get those into play later on.

However, this was my first city. My thinking was that, with only +6 surplus and wanting to work a bunch of -1F hills and no way to build extra farms until CS for extra pop, I should build this city as soon as possible so it can grow for as long as possible, get more pop sooner, get those mines online, get a granary up etc. Didn't really work out like that. I think, if I remember correctly, I didn't have AH when I settled this, I only had 1 worker (still working at the capital) and putting in a monument was annoying when waiting for the extra cow to come into play. This really should've been my second, just because of the worker attention it needs.

On the other hand, you can see that it's already a really nice city, pulling in 18hpt which is already good for 2T axe/spear/chariot/archer, so I think I still did the right thing. The problem with planting on the GH hill to bring the fish into play is that it really only lets you work, like, 2GH hills, and 5G tiles? Like it's nice, but it's nothing special. It DOES let you fit an extra city but... like where do you put it? The banana's useless until calendar + IW. The tile 2W of the wheat pulls in wheat + cows but its stealing food from 2 cities (especially when the capital needs that wheat since its only other food is the seafood.

IDK, I've seen a couple other players go for the GH plant instead so I'm interested to see what they think.

Yeah, I didn't really sync this plant up with my workers lol. I've got 2 coming to board that galley to improve that site. GJoey is south of me and his borders show that he's put a city 1E of where I would be planting on my main island (kinda convenient that everyone has mirrored starts, letting me compare dotmaps).

Ummm yeah that's about it. At least I'm not jowy and didn't get embroiled in an ancient age war.

I was NOT aware that whips are the same as in vanilla instead of being 30-20-20 like in RTR and so I did not whip as much as I would have otherwise and ALSO this city is now completely the wrong move lmao, better to get the extra fish and turn that food to hammers. That said, this city will be a big asset in the late game when pure hammers become more useful than whips I guess. Iron being there is sick, 2T HAs now. This is from last turn, I'm getting a Forge up quick before I start pumping out HAs. Forge will let me get 2T Bezerkers I think (or close to it)

Otherwise I'm doing okay-ish. I settled another city. I'm mad cause Tsargon fucked up and settled his island (north of me) super super late and so I could've gotten a primo spot, but he just nabbed it before me. Then I tried to move west and grab the hill spot southwest of the floodplains in order to rescue the orphaned fish but TBS decced me and forced me to back off. I nearly shit my pants because his power rating is like twice that of everyone else - combined. He decced Scipio and is still at war... but hasn't taken any cities. I think he decced Haram or something. What the hell does he have military wise and where is he using it???

Next city is grabbing the other spot on m south island labelled C. Looks like Joey is giving up this spot - probably has more than enough other spots to grab.

I think my next tech is Machinery but I should probably swap that to Civil Service if I can remember.

I'm running out of Prime Numbers to name my cities after. I wish there wasn't a finite amount of prime numbers.

I've probably got like 2 prime numbers left before I run out

I passed Dreylin in score and am closing in on Fenn/WB [Image: toot.gif]

It took me forever to get out my first GP lol... but it finally came out letting me swap into Caste System and run a bunch more scientists to get out a second one to finally plant my academy in my moved capital. Right now most of my infra is up and I finally swapped into Theo so I'm basically just pumping out all the military that I neglected.

As for tech pathing... not sure. My standard play would be bulbing Edu, but uni's are really expensive on this map, I have probably 5 cities that could build them at a reasonable rate, since everything else is so hammer poor (and 2 of those wouldn't really want one). Trying to get the 7 necessary for oxford would be a nightmare. It's probably better to get Astronomy (viking galleons) for the cheaper observatories and Printing Press for my cottage economy
