Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Nyles Standish occasionally updates his thread

Welcome to my spoiler thread!

This is my second game here at Realms Beyond. My first was Pitboss 27. I don't think that it's much of a spoiler to say that, as of this posting, I'm not doing so well in that one... here's an artist's impression:

So I've decided to try to apply some of the lessons I learned from the mistakes I made and make less this time. If you've been following my PB27 thread, you know I've been very meticulous in my reporting, giving commentary on every individual turn (even if the 'commentary' is often just me saying what's in the screenshot). I'm not sure I'll be doing that his time around, although I hope to, and it's not too time consuming if I stay on top of it.

PB32 - MONSTER HUNTERS

In PB32, here be monsters. You've just graduated from Monster Hunter school, with wide-eyed dreams of becoming like your hero, that guy who says "Clever girl." in Jurassic Park, and you've just gotten your first assignment from Monster Hunters Incorporated: make camp at on this crazy torus world and capture as many monsters as you can! (and also build a Civilization to stand the test of time, and all that jazz).

You can capture a monster by expanding your culture over it, simple as that. On turns 5, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150, 200, and 300, you're asked to post an overview shot of your civ so that we can count how many monsters you control. This info will be posted on the TopMonsterHunter.com, for all your competitors to see. And look, here's your first monster now:

Your combo is: NylesStandish - Charlemagne (Imp/Pro) of Sumeria

You have up to 2 rerolls, and you may lock half a combo.

Definitely locking in Charlemagne. I underexpanded in PB27 and tend to do so vs AIs, so cheap Imp settlers and cheap Pro granaries are the perfect thing to fix that problem.

Not sure about Sumeria, though. Need to think about whether I'm keeping the whole combo or just Charlemagne.

Lock in Charlemagne, reroll Sumeria.

Your new civ is Arabia.
Reply

I'll take it.

On second thought, reroll Arabia. Also, I'd like a sim, please.

Unlucky on 27. Expand expand expand! Interested why you rerolled sumeria? It is the perfect addition to a city spam with cheap earlier courthouses.

Your final civ is India! Hope you like it!

I was tempted by the prospect of landing Aztecs or Holy Rome and getting a courthouse replacement that would be better long term, and I wasn't crazy about the Vulture. Would still have been excellent, though.

Once I got Arabia I considered for a second because Mysticism + Madrasa + Agriculture, even though Camel Archer seems kind of meh, then thought better of it.

India is pretty good, even if it's not BTS fast workers and mausoleum is pretty shit. Chops get the Imperialistic multiplier, right?
