The First Civ6 Lurker Thread

This will probably be the only one. That's why I called it "the". smile

Edit: Changed thread title because of PBEM 2.

I'm a bit more optimistic. If they can demonstrate that the PBEM platform works, I'd be happy to experiment with MP, even if the first few games display perceived imbalances.

I hope that it works out. Although they really should have played at online speed. Who knows.

At least two out of four gamers have blown their load by settling in place. smile Let's look at the picks. FYI my thoughts are based on the only video before the No Quitters mod took over (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MTccSx6Rvc&t=857s), patch changes and the fact that NQs played with the Colosseum banned.

Aztecs. You have to go to war early to make use of their bonuses. But if you do that Scythia is better in every way. This is a terrible pick. smile

Germany. The fact unique districts now suffer inflation hurts but they are still the best or second best sim-city civ. This is a great pick.

Rome. I think both players who picked this don't understand how bad melee units are in MP. The new movement rules are horrifically painful on offense. So they are useless for a timing push but they are still great for defense. This is a solid pick but their are better options for a sim-city civ. Germany or if you are concerned about being attacked China. The fact that China would get a huge buff from Mr. Colosseum not being banned (this may have them take Germany's spot for best sim-city civ) would make them just better than Rome.

I predict with the level of play we've seen so far that Sullla will succeed with his timing push anyway and go on to win from there. He's going to have access to at least one player who settled in place.

Well that could change things. mischief

Edit: This wouldn't change my thoughts on civ selection for this game. Aztecs are still poor, Germany gets a slight buff from tile-yields being more important and China+Germany are still better than Rome.

Late Edit: Not worth its own post but NoQuitters plays with six gamers which would make the Colosseum even better here which makes China even better.

Sulla has a well formulated plan already. Lets see if it survives contact with the opposition.

I hope the other players can give Sulla a run for the money else this is over faster than against emperor AI.

I definitely look forward to management of the 2nd city since in the map script, the closest obvious plant has terrible production.

Well, Sullla's not really trying to win the game.  His goal with this exercise is to get people to like CIV6 as much as he does.  He only really wins this PBEM if he gets manages to make CIV6 popular at Realms Beyond.

So in that way his victory is not so assured.  Should be fun to see if he's successful.

The turn pace is already falling. You're a genius Alhazard!

I did a little research and what makes China's bonus so good is being able to manipulate the game. You can build the Pyramids for the price of a single builder!

I wonder if teh has settled in place. It's killing me. Ohdear

Yuris would beat Sulla into the middle if he had wants it. Sulla prepares a lot more for such games.

It is his goal to win people to Civ6 (and lecture about it wink ) but he also wants to win. Why else doing preparation runs to know how this map looks like and what waits in the middle and so on.
