[spoilers] Commodore takes Advanced Starting

1) for your own amusement
2) increase your post and view count
3) make your neighbors think your up to something nefarious
1. 72%
2. 17.5%
3. 9.3%

Tier 3 Emcee: Mr. Cairo (Catherine of Khmer)
Player Skill: shhh shhh shhh
Combo Quality: rolleye rolleye
If my critiques of Nebuchadnezzar all boil down to “too slow” my issue here is “too fast”. Cathy has nothing but REX potential going for her, while the small map basically ends the REX phase around turn...hey look, 50. Khmer is now the only place for un-nerfed elephants, which are nice, but nothing to end games (I mean, we do all get strength 7 war elephants). I guess it’s fitting that Cathy can dominate horses.

I don’t really know what went wrong with Mr. Cairo’s game. He burned a slightly aggressive TBS city, but it was over fast and they seem convivial now, sharing open borders and an equitable division of territory. Clearly Cairo didn’t know about the Advanced Start Imperialistic settler discount, that much is known at least. I don’t know Cairo’s eventual state, but I know Catherine with this few cities on such a tight map at this point in the game ain’t great.

Spiteful resentment that none of you guys ever ask me questions anymore.

Tier 4, The Crippled: Automated Teller (Stalin of Japan)
Player Skill: party party party
Combo Quality: frown
I like AT, I think he’s a fine player. But I don’t think he did well in the leader/civ pick. Stalin is slow trait plus slow trait, with a kind of meh civilization that peaks at the worthless tech of Civil Service. Maces suck guys, Bureaucracy is a win-more civic and Vassalage is King.

Anyhow, poor AT. He did the inferior two-city Advanced Start open, he got what had to be warrior-sniped by Scooter early, and now he’s scrambling. Stonehenge was a cheap build for him, but I’m sure if those 80 hammers were worth it in the hole where he was.
Shot-Term Fear Level: alright
Midgame Threat: shakehead shakehead
Game Winningatude: splat

I’m so glad the 1.2% question was resolved before I got caught up in the thread.

Would you rather crush one giant sized opponent and fashion a throne from his skull, or crush 4 midget sized opponents and pile their skulls under a conventional throne ?

One giant skull; Scooter's.

I lost this by three turns, ah well. I'll console myself with some Hanging Gardens.
