[PB58] Tarkeel and Amicalola's rule through fear

I changed it. Hopefully it is ok. The displayed color in the admin area isn't exactly the same as in game

Turn 6 (3760 BC)
Our scout is backtracking along the southern coast to make sure we didn't miss any seafood

Demographics

AT had a score increase which is consistent with researching either hunting or agriculture. Average soldier count has increased, and it's very unlikely that someone has built a unit, so that should be hunting. That means Ruff's India is the only civ without hunting, and it would not surprise me if they research it next turn. Crop Yield and MFG is equal across the board, leading me to suspect that starts are if not mirrored then very similar, and AT picked up a forest deer when his borders expanded.

Turn 7 (3720 BC)
We discover a fish in the southern bay:

I'll probably skip reporting the next turn, as there's not likely to be much happening.

Ruff researched Hunting this turn, same reasoning as with AT, making me very happy that we managed to snag Khmer.

Turn 8+9 (3640 BC)
So, the plan to not report turn 8 worked out perfectly, as we got to play a double turn. The scout has just traversed back to the original flood plain area, which is even larger than we knew:

It's also time for one of the first major decisions, as our worker is done in two turns: should we grow on a workboat or warrior/scout? I'm leaning towards a warrior.

T9:

Jowy (+10) and Superdeath (+6) both had score increases this turnm, which due to increased average soldier count should be mining for both of them. More interesting is that Jowy also had a population growth, so I guess he did a workboat start without having Fishing?

Loving how fast these turns are moving. Re: Workbat/warrior, I know you made sims. When do we research fishing?

Turn 10 (3600 BC)
We found some more food to the north, as well as the start of the tundra:

Well, that's the other shoe isn't it? If we go fishing first, the worker has some spare time (for chops, not wasted!) before we can improve the cow, but without fishing the best tile we can grow onto is 2f1h. Will try to get some sims in pretty soon for more details, but I'm leaning towards Fishing before AnimalHusbandry.

Edit: Preliminary sims indicate that even if we research Fishing first, the workboat will be idling for as long as it takes us to build a warrior. So the plan is to build a warrior and mine the hill north of the deer.

Turn 11 (3560 BC)
This is an extremely tech-heavy start, and we really want all of them. After exploring some more I think I'll stick with my initial dotmap instincts (with initial roads marked):

Given our limited worker tech, I'm tempted to move straight for the gold site, as we can improve both it's resources. We're also some ways away from monuments, limiting our settling opportunities. Given the map, CRE should be a good trait for our opponents, but I hope IND should edge it out.

After simming some, I think the best option is a Warrior->Settler->Workboat variant, where research is BronzeWorking->AnimalHusbandry->Fishing. Any thoughts Lewwyn?

Warrior->Settler variant
T1 Found capital, build Worker, research BronzeWorking
T11 Worker->Warrior
T12 Camp deer
T16 BronzeWorking->AnimalHusbandry, Camp complete, Warrior->Workboat
T17 Size 2, Change to settler, chop FGH
T22 Chope FPH
T25 Settler->Worker (for overflow), Mine PH
T26 Change to workboat, Revolt to slavery
Found canal city (T27?) / gold city (T30?)

So my main question in our conversation this morning had been whether we could be much faster with more chops and a 2nd worker before the settler. And the answer, in my tests, was ‘kind of...’

We do get out our 2nd and 3rd workers far faster, but have such a tech bottleneck that they quite literally have nothing to do between about T35-42. Which just feels terrible. So it looks like slow and steady might weirdly be better from those sims. At least we will save 3 forests to chop into an early wonder of our choice?

Hmmmm I like 2nd worker with chops too. Don't worry about third worker now, I think getting a second worker straight out is more powerful for double chops into the settler. But I see the advantage of the warrior>settler route too. The issue is the TR hook up...

What about settling the city SE of the gold on the Riverside plains. That way we get TR connection without roads through the river to the lake. You lose the PH city tile though and you move the filler city 1S maybe move green city to the desert hill. We just need the cap to expand borders and we'll get the TR through culture without sailing.

I think going gold first is doable, I also think we should investigate the pig and possibly settle the PH SE of the pig.
