Nothing like the Prodigal Sons: The Odd Couple actually play as themselves.

Darrell

I like this.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Look Gaspar, we saw the screenshot before picking and still got a grain! Because it's not Commodore making the map.

I drove through Spoons or Forks or whatever the other day, wasn't impressed at all. Saw no werewolves, vampires, or drama at all. Just a cup of coffee and several elderly people enjoying their lunch at the diner. I vote skip on that theme.

Just go with hate, you'll never run out of names.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

I imagine SIP though probably worth making the scout go W-NW just to see what's there before committing fully, since if we were going to move, that would be the direction.

Decent enough start - probably just go with an Ag/Wheel civ, Ag/Hunting is too cute by half since Hunting is a cheap tech and can easily be researched before the worker needs to get there. Sumeria, Egypt, Ottomans would be the natural preference, probably in that order.

As far as leader, I think I'd want Sury > Mehmed > Zara. Nobody will take Zara before us, so I don't think I need to dig any deeper than that.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Do we even know for sure that Sury is allowed? The ban discussion was such a clusterfuck that I just didn't bother paying attention to any of it.

Anyway while the grassland hill would allow us to keep the wheat and the flood plains, I feel like we should check out the PH 2S to see if there's another food in range. If there is I'd trade the two flood plains for the food and gain the plains hill in the process.

The likelihood of Serdoa making the PH plant 2S a viable start location on a hand-drawn map is pretty much zero.

As for map-dimensions: 92x40

Also there is no Marble/Stone at all. As that's unusual I think its just fair to tell you.

Okay we have the settings and the dimensions so I'll make a sandbox tomorrow. And I'm happy that there will be no marble/stone imbalance.

Jesus just pick already dude. We're all losing to 7 anyway, it's not that big of a deal.
