Or any variant, which brings on "regional" rulers for larger empires.

I tried a few times to get some of my conquered opponents to stick around for just this kind of thing. Not a single one was interested in even ded-lurking and even less interested in helping manage things. I guess I took out the wrong neighbors. It would be helpful to keep around one or two people for specific tasks in the mid to late stages of the game to spread the work around. There are plenty of repetitive clicks spent on scouting each turn, then workers terraforming, builds to queue, cities to micro (you can forget doing this every turn solo), and THEN moving military around. And Sid help you if you have a large scale war. shakehead

Never again. I'll happily lurk this one. I don't mean to discourage anyone. It IS fun, but it also is a major undertaking to do properly late in the game and available time can become a serious issue if you have to do the whole thing alone. I hope whoever ends up hanging around at the end of the next big game either has a teammate and some ded lurkers or can scoop up some helping hands from the victim pool before the game goes too far along. YMMV.

Bacchus, you'd have been more than welcome to join me in PB18, or even log in and take a look around your old land... its not even too late, the game is STILL going, believe it or not! yikes

Well, I also think it's a must. I'm always slightly in awe, but also deeply commiserating, of/with the people who manage to plow on to the very end. Personally for me even 30 cities start getting too much and yeah, that's pitiful. In any case, for future reference, I'm quite happy to 'vassalize'. But getting back into PB18 after nearly a year's break (lol) is too much.

Given that pitbosses do tend to grow to 50-city empires, some sort of institution for expanding the player base as the game goes on could be useful. Perhaps lurkers should be encouraged to shift towards dedlurking around turn 100 to be able to pick up the role of "regional administrator" around turn 150. Of course, there are multiple issues that make this difficult, no-one would want to pick up just the worker management, for example, or just aerial scouting. And, conversely, lead players wouldn't really want to concede anything significant. And no-one wants to spend too much time discussing minor matters in-thread. But there are probably semi-sensible rules of thumb we could work out on what the administrator should be able to do.

Leaving aside resources, available space is not equal for all players (some players have safe backfill and their own private islands, others do not), some players are have as many as six neighbors while others have as few as three, some players have terrain swathed in jungle and the others trees, and the terrain, because of the tight spacing, makes everything worse.

No spoilers here, but I agree with GJ. I could tell early on that some players had much more space to settle than others, and though it is not impossible to overcome that situation, it is much harder. I don't think I'm as angry about it as he is (shhh), but I agree with his analysis.

PB25 spoiler for Grimace to read.
Well I think you had the worst start on the map, with borsche a close second. Sorry about that. The idea was that everyone had options to expand overseas and the folks with less land got lusher land. Nobody had six neighbours though. smoke

And yet there was no reason for it to be, it was just yet another way for him to be smug and condescending towards me. Anyways, lets be done about the PB25 map in this thread.

There's like, 9 other threads y'all can post about it in the PB25 forum, and, of course, he's more than welcome to post about it in my thread...

edit: ... what I'm trying to say is that I realize everyone wants me to shut up about it already, and I'm trying to shut up about it, but if its right in front of my face I can't shut up about it. I didn't bring it up this time or the time before.
