In the grim darkness of 1360 B.C., there is only war.

Happily, this means that Cairo is less likely to snipe my* island, and I've been able to garrison it.

*You own what you can keep.

Sharp eyed colosseum visitors may notice that I'm building a chariot. In addition to war, there was some diplomacy:

I sent Miguelito a desperate request for horses some time ago, but I guess he wanted to see that I was actually in peril before helping out a quasi-neighbor. Happiness is a huge problem. I've whipped enough that if when I whip that Chariot, Barcelona will be unhappy at size 1. Madrid would have the same problem. Oh well.

All these early wars would be thoroughly enjoyable if I weren't losing mine.

Here's the overview.

I suspect Scooter will try an end run with the northernmost chariot, and with luck I can trap and kill it. Any day now he'll bring up the axes.

Speaking of...

I know I've talked about the copper situation before. It's so freaking scary. Any minute Scooter can swoop down with a galley and disconnect my copper again. Basically, I need to park two units there permanently (and they can't be archers...). If Scooter drops off an axe and a spear next to the copper, it's almost as bad. Then he can just keep them camped next to the copper and I have to let him park in my lands or burn hammers at a bad exchange rate to get them out. This copper location is such a freaking nightmare. It's so, so miserable.

What are you doing with those archers in the woods?

The eastern chariot has 1/4 health. The western one is at 3.6/4. The goal is to drive them out of my land. If Scooter doesn't respect the threat at all, I can even poke his newest city. There's a small chance he can kill both archers if he attacks with 4 chariots, but it's unlikely and then I could attack with the spear. I'll take 3 chariots for 2 archers any day.

Edit: East for West confusion.

Made a bad, bad move with my chariot. Was going to put it and a spear on my galley and harass Scooter, but I realized halfway through it wouldn't do any damage. So now the the chariot is 1NE of where it should be and can't kill Scooter's axe when he moves west.

It's probably going to cost me a unit at least. Scooter and I might end up trading a bunch of units next turn.

It breaks my heart that Scooter seems to be profiting from this attack.

Cairo and Ruff both got involved in early wars (which means so did 2 other players) and Vanrober/GKC has been unable to out-develop a guy who has spent 300 hammers on military before turn 70 and is building barracks before granaries. Breaks my freaking heart.

banghead Why didn't I load my chariot into the galley last turn?  banghead

Ugh. High chance that play could've killed a city. Ugh.

There's a spear under Scooter's axe. He could be thinking about just combining all his units and slow walking them into my lands. But for now, we've pushed the invaders out of our borders. Well, except for that warrior who's tying down an archer until I build an axe.

I was wondering what you meant by it not doing damage. Do you give it another try?

His cap was too defended. Even a warrior gets odds on a chariot with a hill + culture. I thought about pillaging his copper but didn't think he'd be so undefended. I'm game to give it another try depending how his units move and if he keeps disrespecting the naval threat. He just finished a granary, so I imagine his next build is a unit to take advantage of the barracks. The presence of an enemy spear means I can let the chariot go off and do other stuff. It's not a wonder-weapon right now.

Scooter moved two chariots into Street Fighter, so he did respect the naval threat.

I'm trying to keep the chariot hidden as long as I can. I don't think the terrain is amenable to a surprise attack, but I'll try to keep the option open.
