Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILER] Fate/stay close (to home)

Killed the spear, turned on auto-promote, upgraded the warrior. Axe will hopefully suicide against us. Two settlers out next turn.
We will be building military in 5 cities to beef up a bit.

Barbs eradicated:

I was roading towards yellow when workers were threatened (not worth risking them if we get a bad combat roll), so I could settle the other city there or at orange.
Not sure where yet. Yellow is weaker, but is more likely to be contested by Amicalola.

Ran into more Civac territory. I asked him for OB while we were both on and got it.

Way more islands on this map than I thought. Worth rushing for I think, especially if we get the wonders.

Production update. Wish we had more forests around. Only the capital has plenty.

Summer BB gives her NP's name to our newest city:

Amicalola might have been planning to settle around here since he has an axe roaming the jungle.
He has also claimed the rice tile from our potential yellow dot. He could be looking to settle another city 1S of the rice, we don't want to let him have that.

More cities!

You know the drill. This is Musashi's NP.

We also find out Superdeath has landed on my island frown
He also built The Great Lighthouse. Wasn't a close race, but we got some gold out of it.

Up north I'm not happy with Amicalola's Purple Rain plant. It will steal good tiles from two of my cities.
While I am not going to expand through conquest, I never said I wouldn't raze a city or two shhh
He also has another settler getting dangerously close.

And more!

This one's named after Sherlock Holmes' NP.

It's a crappy city now, but it will be nice when the jungle's gone.

Looking again at Cursed Crater, I think that one should have been 1S to share the corn, OR 1NW to make sure it gets the rice.

I don't expect to get Blue Dot, but if we can snatch it, it would be a great get.
Could alternatively move Yellow dot 2W for copper+iron+clam city.

Colossus coming along nicely.
I had a galley idling after ferrying over a settler+worker.. should have been scouting the island to the south!

The barb from way earlier in the game re-appears to take on our new city.

On tech: I'm planning Calendar and building MoM in capital. I'm holding gold until I can 100% it. We can see if someone else techs it. If not, then we pretty much got it secured.

Working well, I'm happy with the pick. One of the water civs I was considering would have been great, but I didn't quite expect this many islands in the map.
It'll be kinda tough to judge NA's strength when the main job is deterring others from attacking. Dogs to prevent early rush, Totem Pole exp + Pro to make later attacks not worthwhile.
Right now we can get CG3 archers out with just a Totem Pole and a Barracks. Or CG2 with just a Totem Pole (which is essentially free since I only built them where I'd need monuments anyway).
I don't think NA are OP though, I think they are only a niche pick to pair with Pro, or perhaps to early rush with Dogs.

No sweat:

8.55 str archer.. now imagine it with more promos behind a castle!

Overview shot T89:

I might have scared off Amicalola's settler or he might have planned to settle there anyway, but in any case he settled a city that only overlaps with 1 new tile of mine.
Amicalola now has a front of 4 cities on open ground that I could attack. It might have been wise to settle Purple Rain 1NW to not promote conflict with his neighbor.

Speaking of conflict, I've caught up in power now that I have a bunch of archers and a few dogs out. GNP not looking so great after the new city spam, although Rikudou will pay for itself when it can work the gold.

I ran into a possible dead end:

Arghhh the frustration. Two more people have circumnavigated already. I guess people had their scouts run around the world? RIP Heracles.
That extra trade route would have been so good. Commodore has had his for ages.
GKC this is by far my favorite map I've played or lurked. Please don't take the circumnavigation ranting as an insult, it's really my fault for not realizing it could be done.
It just hurts to be missing an extra 30 GPT when I'm making 44 GPT at 0%.

Demos don't look too good anymore. I'm not far from average, so maybe things are close, but it's not fun seeing your ranks be around 6 in a 8 player game!
The leader btw I'm pretty sure is in Golden Age. We haven't met Gavagai yet, but by process of elimination it should be him.

I need an intervention. Anyone lurking this wanna criticize my gameplay so far? Without spoilers of course.
