I said I would pick this up yesterday and miserably failed to do so - apologies.

Got it.

Hope Brian is OK scared .

We're at war and we're the second weakest civ we know. However, the weakest is our opponent, so that's nice.

We have two settlers and two more in production, but not enough troops to cover them given our commitments. Shame we don't have AV in more cities, but not a lot we can do about that just now. Might be able to spare the 2nd Ritualist to get the ball rolling? I still switch to warriors - they will be useful either for the war or to cover our existing settlers, and new settlers will just end up hanging around.

T171
----
Volanna's troops skirt our defensive line. No real action.

T172
----
Aaaand then they just go back into her territory.

Found Warrenpoint, to block further elvish advances to the south. It will grab pigs after a border pop so long as we win the culture war - I start a Reliquary (ugh) to help ensure that ...

A tile near the Luichirp that was somehow still fogged turns out to hold wheat. I might change our settling plans, although that is not a safe border now.

T173
----
Necromancy is in. Horseback riding is next. We also have our first Ritualist.

174
---
Building up our forces on the border ...

T175, 176
---
Surprisingly quiet for a war. I decide to train up some troops against a goblin fort if the Ritualist can wear the barbs down enough - XP on adepts would be good.

T177
----
We have Death Mana. And thus skeletons.

T178
----
Horseback riding is in. I select Hunting (we have deer) but turn off research. Sorcery is an obvious target if we think we can get XP on the adepts, but it's a way off.

T179
----
Hello Decius! I doubt we're going to be friends ...

Found Niveus in the desert. I actually start building some infrastructure in places that can only build Warriors (I'm building one Monk because we should build one of our unique unit).

T180
----
I deliberately sacrifice a warrior to a scorpion to clear the way to the wheat. YMMV. But the settler is now ready to found next turn.

Here's our stack (EDIT: I think I deleted the skeletons after this shot because I suddenly remembered they cost money to run). We should have a third Ritualist soon - I'd recommend getting Rosier online after that.

Volanna did nothing all set, so I just built up and expanded. Our economy seems to be still OK but will probably need some care. Once we have wheat Dereptus becomes tempting, but building it on the war border seems ... unwise. Oh, and my worker micro this set was a horror that should be used to terrify small children and we may now have too many farms.

I haven't moved our new settler this turn because I don't know quite what to prioritise. Hunting is also a bit of a placeholder tech right now.

Turns 182-191
moved most of the border guaard over to kill the goblin fort, explored it and got an Order Acolyte. Medic is pretty good with all these March promotions.
Killed two lizardmen with warriors at 75% chance, got some nice xp from that. Also used a ritualist to attack a goblin at 75%, also nice xp there.
also killed a lone Svartalf troop with combat 3 in a forest, burned her on the border and attacked with no-xp warrior at 57%.... a nice 8 XP and the svartalf didn't attack him while he was injured and alone.
Didn't really know where to put the new settler from slane, so now we have two hill-site towns opposite the Luichirp.
I think my fire magic destroyed a bunch of lumbermills, but at least the forest fires were swiftly put out by adepts. edit - actually we don't have archery tech yet.
Burned the inexperienced Ritualist to build a temple in Killybegs, it needed a +1 happiness plus of course that unlocks good troop production.
Having a unit on the Mirror of Heaven gives us good vision over the Svartalfar.
Started building a Chaos node because its spells are fun and I don't think it causes further diplo upset with Luichirp.

I was about to comment on what we probably need to invade Volanna, but then I realised she was willing to offer peace, giving us a world map into the bargain.
We should invade the southern barbarians instead.

Damn, forgot to post screenshot. Anyway, next player has Rosier the Fallen, plus two almost-complete diseased corpses with a near-complete Ritualist. Also we need a worker or two more, the north and east is underdeveloped.

Sorry for falling off the back of the truck on this one. Luckily my Covid-19 bout wasn't too heavy, but last week I only had enough energy for work (was working from home), and this week it's been an unseasonably hot 26-28C meaning I've been getting very little sleep.

I'll slot back in when my turn comes around again.

Overall the game looks in a good spot, haven't had a chance to take a proper look.

It does sound like we're in good shape. I'll mention that my favored promotion path for Rosier is Drill I-IV -> Blitz. Since he usually has excellent odds on attack, the drill promotions can keep his damage low, and it's very useful to have a unit that can eliminate up to six enemies per turn.

We just need to be aware that our diplomacy is probably in the tank with everyone but the Sheaim, and a two-front war could be painful. I guess we may be actually able to make friends with Volanna now, but I'm not sure I would want to.

Sorry, I'm away all week (until the 19th). I can play my set when I get back, but otherwise I'm happy to be skipped and slot back in next round.

I was preparing to play today, but then noticed that it's Amica's return date. I guess I'll wait till he plays, unless his plate is already full of pitboss catchup.

T191 - I start moving units around to prepare for attacking the southern barbarians. I also notice the very nice music we've gotten via Ashen Veil (?).

T192 - We finish research of Code of Laws. I start it onto Writing, as libraries seems as strong as they are in vanilla. This gives us the option of Aristocracy, also, for +2 commerce and -1 food on all farms. I wasn't sure if this was worth having, so I suspect it is, so I didn't burn the anarchy turn. If that was foolish, convert ASAP!

T195 - In the assault on Myrean, I discover the hard way that Ring of Fire burns our troops. I had been wondering how it wasn't so overpowered. smoke

Luckily, despite my stupidity, we capture the city without losses.

T196 - I'm building a few courthouses in large cities. They don't save huge portions of money, but they're so cheap for us as Organised that it seems worth it. This might be a misunderstanding of how long the game will go, though.

T197 - Writing finishes and I'm unsure of where to go next. There's so many options! I leave research at 0% for the following 4 turns, as a safety precaution.

T200 - The 'Good' civs get an event for a free great prophet. No such luck for devil worshippers.

T201 - We capture Dirage, the other southern city. Rosier picks up enough EXP in the melee to unlock Drill 4, although Blitz is still a ways off.

Over to you, DaveV!

Got it. Initial responses:

It's been a long time since I've played with music turned on, but I do enjoy the FfH soundtrack.

It also affects neutral troops in the AoE, and is supposed to result in instant war with the affected civs (I seem to recall rare times when it didn't).

It pains me to see unpillaged forts at Myrean. They're not as profitable to pillage as cottages, but it's money left on the table.

I also hate to see all the desert tiles in our borders. Is everyone aware that you can cast Spring after moving?
