From Moogles perspective 1W of Samba is the real sweet spot (city on hill with 3 flat woodless tiles around)

I saw that, but it doesn't block it off though.

A large force (say from Sandover) that he's afraid of attacking out at, could just go around.
Whereas that can't happen with Samba's position.

Agree/disagree?
I'm open to being contradicted here.

A sufficiently large army (with catapults) should be able to force its way through either way. I guess I would go for the current location of Samba since that would always be able to buy me time if someone invades. And once machine guns are available that city should be almost impenetrable.

Diplomatically, I think this is perhaps the most interesting game on these forums currently. Much of that is owed to Sandover's style, which is very entertaining. He's playing like an AI in a dominant position... "this sure would come in handy". smile

Yes the blocking off is the advantage of Samba but OTOH if your enemy is so strong that you are afraid of attacking out huddling in the city doesn't do you much good either. Once siege-units are available you have to attack out else your city-defenders get colateralled to death and the city falls. With the hill west of Samba an approaching Army has a nice little staging ground.

A fort on Samba's tile and the city itself placed 1W would most likely be the best.

The biggest winner from this war will be Sandover...

Timmy's loss of Hari sure makes it sound like he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. Did he really think he could hold the city by just sitting in there awaiting Bob's Catapults and Praetorians to do their thing? He should have abandoned the city and saved those units since he obviously didn't have the strength to strike out at the invasion squad. He just adopted Vassalage, meaning he can now slave dual-promo Longbows, but they might come too late to save him.

This made me smile. smile
I'm looking forward to Bob's next report...
I have to run.

Timmy was hoping he could sucker Bob into holding off for a turn allowing Timmy to bring his entire stack with siege in range. In Timmy's situation, I think he needs to win big not small, so I can see that gamble being a reasonable move.
