Jowy declared was on Azza . The power difference is not that much, so I'd guess he snatched a settler or something along those lines. Krakow also finished the university, so I managed to shave one turn off from Acoustics, which will now complete next turn.

Interesting turn that Austria declared. IMO Jowy will find he has chosen unwisely once Azza has machinery. He should remember Bella gerant alii ....

Well, Jowy is already last in soldiers now. Captured settlers turns into workers, so the settler below is definitely Jowy's own. He's in a quite a bit of a situation here
At home, I adopted rationalism opener for 10% science boost. Construction and colosseums next, so I can actually keep the empire happy for this bonus.
Everyone got a spy since we entered renaissance era. I sent one to Rome to see what Jkaen is up to.

Azza build Petra in kind of a wasted spot. Then again, there might not be better spots available and he does get the extra trade route and caravan out of it. I believe he also got a city state quest completed for this.
Azza vs. Jowy front
I actually got two city state quest completed by finding Austria. It's debatable if it was actually Austria finding me though... . Techwise I'm heading engineering next for the additional trade route. Wroclaw could really use a food shipment.
I'm #1 in soldiers as well now.

So Jowy settled Bregenz last turn and bought two tiles for ivory which he won't be able to improve while at war with Azza anyway.
Would really like to know why he declared

Well, that's more typical for Petra spots in real games, unlike my highly cooked single player setups. It's giving at least 4 food and 4 hammers from the two oases and two desert wheat, which is more than the Hanging Gardens. Still looks worthwhile to me, especially if it was a CS quest too.

All cities working hard to get workshops in place. More importantly, got my first great scientists who I'll use to bulb the medieval middle techs.
I'm beelining towards Printing Press and planning to build Leaning tower of Pisa to grab great engineer from it. That's usually a no brainer build for me. Printing press also enables world congress, which will be quite interesting as I've never used it in a MP game.
My spy gets a look at Jkaen's capital. I'm not that impressed, but that might change if Jkaen walks up a huge army next to my borders
And finally the most annoying feature of Civ 5.
Where is the prophet I was promised! I'm not even working the faith natural wonder, since all extra points will be wasted whenever the prophet cares to appear...

Looks like Rome has some happy-problems ( .75 excess food) which of course will end once the temple is built. How does Warsaw look in comparison?

Here's Warsav, just finished workshop and going for (hopefully) easy happiness with Notra Dame.
Poznan and Wroclaw are now sending amazing food shipments between each other

Looking at the capitals and considering that his other cities are smaller than Krakow or lodz and you having crossbows soon I would say Rome shouldn't be a danger anymore.
