Q, thanks for the poke. Been meaning to do an update.
I'm still fully engaged in the game. Turns are slow, like every 3 days, but still moving... and that's ok with me cuz I just don't have the time for more. I'm currently 2nd best in tech, 2nd best in pop... but two different teams lead those demos. I'm first in hammers, and have been all game. That lead is likely to grow next turn:
I believe Phoenix gets 47 *base* hammers after the levee, and will build wealth to get me my Railroad tech in the 4t timeframe. After that, 1t Machine Guns!
Also, note the well placed coal. Thanks, Mr. 'Dore!
I recently sniped 3 lightly defended workers from Stick, bringing my total to 10. The timing was perfect: railroad is always as sudden surge in workload. I'll have these guys lay down a strategic railnet in just 2 turns. Since my empire is compact (less than 10 tiles any direction) I can finally put my zone defenders *in* my cities... which is needed badly.
KJN is making great use of Sistine Chapel, and pushing my culture defenses back. He has 1st ring access to 2 cities of mine, and a large stack still staring me down... railroad is huge for defense there.
Tech-wise, I took the Economics merchant last turn, and otherwise beelined Railroad. The Merchant can actually bulb 1/5 of railroad (I was surprised), but that seems like a waste at this stage. In 9 more turns I'll have a 3rd GP for my Golden age.
That's my beautiful Bureau capital... swapping off the sheep and rice from Phoenix and Gandalf, respectively during this specialist run. Gandalf is my GP farm and so the cap will likely never produce another GP.
That golden age will be used to tech Democracy and swap to UniSuf and Emancipation, hopefully. Currently I don't even have philosophy, so I'll have to do the math on that run. Philo - Nat'l - Constitution - Democracy in ~10 turns? Seems unlikely.
Check for results here in, say, 2 more months! Sorry, but real life doesn't leave time for good reporting.
