Did Cornflakes and Q ever elaborate on why they wanted to hit Azza? They state that this is a smash and grab, but if that's the case all they get is pillage gold while everyone else who borders Azza gets another free border city later in life...

I don't really see anything wrong with the attack. Azza is woefully unprepared.

In terms of perhaps even killing Azza, yeah it looks fine. Good calling of a spread out farmer's gambit. I was thinking more on the wider stage. There's 6 other teams out there... shrinking it to 5 in a way that doesn't lock down all that land for you seems not the best. What am I missing?

It's not costing them much at all. Would I press on and try to kill Azza if there's decent resistance? Certainly not. Just because Azza's other neighbors will benefit doesn't mean they won't benefit a lot as well.

I don't have the map in front of me but weren't they trying to disconnect iron? Maybe not. But in any case punishing undefended frontier cities is reason enough to attack. If nothing else they've relieved cultural pressure around Volcano, at little cost. AW is a decidedly opportunistic gameplay experience. If you leave no credible defense in place, this is what happens....
