I need to figure out why I dropped off so horribly t150-200 - I suspect I should have spent more time in Serfdom, but that can't be all I did wrong...
Have to say I enjoyed having to play the map slightly differently to normal, but we should really have asked for a balanced map. Thing is I PMed most of our map makers and Ceil was the only one who responded and it didn't sound like he had much time so I (we?) thought this was the easiest way for him to generate it. 100 map rolls doesn't sound like that does it?
No need for apologiese , I reacted bad after that and just wanted to ruin your game for like 20 turns then , and at some point i realized we are both doomed because TBS was groing so fast and from what I seen COm would had fall very quickly, I think you done what you thin was bets for you althought i think you conquering OTE4 was beter and let me to conquer REM and after 2MN was what i tought but looks like you dont know to rea my mind

I am sorry that it resulted for most of the players in spending plenty of time in totally unwinnable situation. But it seems that the mapmaker took the worst sides of my initial idea. I still think It can work. It supposes that people have many different opportunities for opening, later expansion or interacting, but neither of this I could find this game. The map was really poor, I had to choose where to plant 2nd city from a single plain cow or fish without even place to recover food with green farms. I have never been put in the situation where my cities simply become unhealthy at the size of 10 but I didnt suffer from it fully since I actually had no food to grow them that high. Weird.
I am still convinced that Ceiliazul was deliberately trolling all of us with this shitty map. Like, there's that whole bit about several hundreds of maps - what the fuck? First of all, why would you even think to count that? And how do you click "Regenerate Map" several hundred times without thinking "wow, I've spent an entire day regening this mapscript and yet I've hated every single map so far, maybe I should try a different mapscript?" I just can't believe that's what he really did. It's impossible.

So that's what happened, I never did figure out what went on with that city raze. That was pretty big in allowing me some time to catch back up.

Yeah that was prety stupid by me, but was the thing which gave me some fun for some turns, seeing OH is shufling units to defend his coastal cities.I think he was wrong playing just against me and not for his gain and I was realy wrong going in this piss contest.

Quote:I was talking about how dificult my opening was, i had 2 build 2 wb before a worker at that time you could had already started on your setler so could had a way faster start and realy yours resources werrent worse then mine and you had more green land near by my only luck was that i was fin and i could hapily waork coast but long term that was a dead end.If i could choose what start i want for sure was OH , second TBs and third was yours for sure.
By T50 you have got TGLH so obviously you got lighthouse little bit earlier. What kind of hardships are you talking about? You got +15 food, I got +8, do you still prefer my spot?
How could the fact that I could get first settler slightly earlier (like 5 turns) help me recover this given the fact I only had plain hills and jungles surrounding me?
When we met each other you were doubling me in food resource and I only counter connected ones you had. What is this argue for? I never denies your superior skill, I was just trying to say that my start sucked so hard that you could probably beat me staying with just one city while letting me expand wherever I reached that game in fact.

I was rather checked out for most of this game, but it was just so hopeless for me. I had a decent sized island but no ability to cottage, and barely any ability to farm. This hurt me massively until the windmill boosting civics came in. I didn't have the ability to gain any land really until Astro (I'm not gonna try a galley invasion) but by then everyone else was more or less on par and had multitudes of production more than me. I felt my only chance was to sit tight, focus on research and let the big guys hack away at each other.
I was a few turns off Kremlin which I was gonna fuel with bio farms and I only needed a GM for a 4 person GA and then it would be a space attempt, although I would have been easy prey if anyone were ever serious about invading me. By city 5/6 I was settling for single clams

I didn't consider trolling, but man, I'm still a bit bitter about my start in this game. I mean, let's put the civ with the hard REX trait combo in the spot where he can only expand in a straight line in the opposite direction of his neighbor.

I wasn't trolling, it was an honest but flawed effort. I generated mostly fractal and lakes maps but they were all unbalanced in proximity/land forms. In the end, I was frustrated, the wife was furious, and I tried a different map script... this one. And I liked the land forms, and figured the less lush map would be a good fit for veterans. It would have probably been easier to paint a dang land form than what I did. Sorry guys.
There are so many folks here who are really good at it, I'll bow out from now on.

As far as I can see the only folks who get to complain about the map are Mack and TBS/Joey who voted for balance. The rest of you are whining about shooting yourselves in the feet. Do we need to change the rb motto from playing the hand you're dealt to bitching about every little thing?
Ceil, I really enjoyed playing a different map style and failing to take advantage of my (slightly better) starting position. I hope you don't let the moaners get to you.

Yeah, I'll chime in too, it's not something I'd like to play every game on, but I found the map very interesting, rewarding some very different strategies than the norm. Mackoti with his vertical first start, TBS with his windmills. Very cool.
