Done!
Quote:Sandover,
You saw me working a forest tile? That could have only been my newest city - when I hit enter it grew to size 2 (forest tile) and was immediately whipped, so I never actually worked a forest in that city . Sorry to disappoint!
Agreed on all points - the Machinery thing sounds fair enough. Sounds like we
are in agreement then. Deal.

Quote:Scooter,
Meh. Monument I guess. Oh well, enjoy being ahead while it last.
He is probably actually ahead of me in general. My lack of decent food resources and the choice to turn Sandoria into an economical powerhouse makes me think that's likely, anyway. And I really do lack forests to abuse this game. Should be fine though as I expect Sandoria to show its worth later on. Funding certainly won't be an issue. I'm much more concerned about the growth rate of my non-capital cities.

Turn 40
Serdoa declared war on Lewwyn! This is especially interesting considering Lewwyn's latest email:
Quote:Thanks Sandover!
I decided against the horses in the end. I wanted to create a border with Serdoa instead as I feel that was more pressing that strategic resources. As for our border I think we can say we have a bit of time. What direction are you going to go if not the desert marble? Seems everything east of that marble is next to me and if you go past the marble the marble will be in your back fill anyway.
Lewwyn
Yeah, he's up to 4 cities now. And is he really suggesting that neither of those cities are connecting a strategic resource? He could be in some serious trouble if that's correct.
Darrell is heading back to Lewwyn's horse site to confirm. Him not expanding west while fighting a war north sounds too good to be true.
Quote:Lewwyn,
Heads up that Serdoa declared war on you before sending me the save today. Did you shove both of your new cities up his face or what?
I'm going to claim the region somewhat north of the marble (where my horses are). Everything east of the marble should be yours for the taking.
His Dark Lordship, Pharaoh Sandover
He's online so I got these immediately:
Quote:Well, I did make a border... :D He's telling me to gift to him. I'm telling him to shove it. So yeah, I'm aware of his declaration and what troops are there.
Lewwyn
Quote:Oh and where are your horses? I don't see horses north of the desert marble.
Lewwyn
I reply:
Quote:Lewwyn,
Good luck with the war then. You strike me as the kind of guy one can't mess with unpunished so I figure Serdoa might be in for more than he bargained for.
What is he throwing at you?
The horses are 4 tiles north and a few tiles west I think. Not on the actual river bank but close to it.
He's exactly the kind of person I expect to hold a grudge for eternity so this can't get much better really. Gaspar might have thrown his game away already with his wonder whoring so if this war last a while this game could turn into a good ol' duel between me and scooter. Serdoa should be able to make some gains though so shouldn't discount him automatically even if the war ends up being unresolved for a long time.
Also note in the screen shot above that scooter did indeed whip a monument, and that he has a chariot. Grassland pigs are so much better than grassland cattle it's not even funny! I'm not complaining though, we asked for a map that wasn't necessarily balanced so long as every position is winnable. I'm merely contemplating the situation with some envy.

War happening in distant lands is always good (in CIV).
Hopefully I can get a good look at the battlefield

Forget about it, I'm sending you west to map out scooter's general area. Entertainment is for your spare time (if I ever end up giving you any).
Still some back and forth with Lewwyn going on:
Quote:He's got 3 agg warriors next to the city closest him, one warrior near my second city. I have 2 warriors in the contested city and one in the other. But I have a surprise for him too, since I was going to invade him in two turns anyway...
Lewwyn
Quote:Lewwyn,
Right, looks like it's going to come down to the RNG then.
A surprise sounds like fun. May I ask what it is? I won't feed any information to Serdoa.
Quote:Well it won't hurt to tell you. I have gold saved up and copper is hooked up next turn. RNG won't be a factor. He's one turn too late.
Lewwyn
Quote:Lewwyn,
Sounds like a slaughter. Make sure to report it in your thread so I get to read about it once the game is over!
How many warriors can you upgrade? 1? 2?

And diplo with Gaspar:
Quote:Your Dark Lordship, Pharaoh Sandover,
I feel the same way about screenshots, unless its a key something in a military situation, I really don't like turn-playing to feel like I'm writing a research paper, so I prefer all the relevant info to be available in game. Nonetheless, a map trade down the line sounds mutually beneficial, so in 70 or so turns when someone maybe has paper, we'll have something to go on.
I suspect Lewwyn was really just trying to make me afraid of you - both he and scooter have mostly focused on trying to drive a wedge in the diplomacy. I really don't like the artificial attempts at relationships people try to forge. I much prefer to just keep a conversation going, then you can see who you can work with. All these early game shenanigans are is really just a way to keep us entertained until the turns get involved enough that we can have more action and less words.
Haven't heard anything else from our friends to the north since then, which is just as well, they'll come find me when they have something to say. I got my 2nd city founded finally, Oracle will finish shortly and we'll get the expansion phase in full throttle by then. I think the idea that you measure strength by number of cities is overrated anyway. Its a measure, sure, but unless there's contested land, a far more important number is how many productive cities you have at any given time. If you're planting cities just to work a bunch of grassland forest tiles, you're not actually getting yourself ahead. Anyway, I feel confident I'll be competitive on that front as well soon.
Anything interesting happening up there in Egypt?
Prophet Gaspar
Quote:Prophet Gaspar,
Things are starting to heat up up here. I noticed scooter building a strat. resource unit on the power graph (turned out to be a chariot) and told him I'd be sending a warrior to keep an eye his third city to make sure he wasn't sending it towards me. He responded by threatening to kill said unit, and I replied back that I won't hesitate to fight a war with him if he snipes one of my units in neutral territory. So there was a short crisis but we were both actively responding to each others emails and ended up agreeing to a NAP of sorts, basically preventing ancient era warfare and limiting stationary scouting in neutral territory. He was the one negotiating from a position of power so I'm satisfied with the result.
Serdoa has declared war on Lewwyn. I've talked to Lewwyn some this morning and he's now up to 4 cities, having shoved at least one of them up Serdoa's alley. The invasion force is apparently 4 (aggressive) warriors but Lewwyn is claiming he's got the situation under control. Nevertheless, war between the two of them will most certainly be to our benefit. Do you want to host the celebration party or shall I?
His Dark Lordship, Pharaoh Sandover
The number of diplo posts in this thread is starting to get rather crazy, it feels like. Good thing I always have at least one screen shot for my turn updates so they're easy to find for those just skimming through.

That could've been said in relation to pretty much anything, so go ahead.

On a more serious note:
With the Serdoa-Lewwyn war beeing for real it doesn't look like scooter is in any danger to get hurt before he reaches his op-Phracts.
A scooter steamrolling Serdoa and/or Lewwyn is not a future I want to see.
