[SPOILERS] Stonehenge First: scooter's thread

Bigger Wrote:you could always turn the research to 0 for the rest of the golden age, then have a hhuge stockpile of gold for 100% researching for quite awhile.

Really, though, the only way to avoid this is to just never do a golden age, which doesnt seem like a good strategy to me lol. I think people realize your GNP is inflated by the golden age. Better pump out some units just in case. You'll be able to build knights in 2 turns now, right? pump out knights for the rest of the golden age, and if the dogpile for some reason doesnt happen, you'll be able to invade Pindicator or Commodore after the golden age smile.

Yep. And on Knights - well the capital is not capable of building units without wasting hammers, so I suspect I'll be 1-turning Knights there. Heroic Epic is finally going up elsewhere, so that'll be helpful as well.

You haven't posted much about commodore or Pindicator's tech rates, but it doesnt seem like they are close to knights... do they have macemen? 2 moving knights should be able to hold off any dogpile with such small empires quite easily, I would think. Just play defensive until the golden age ends

Well I had tech visibility on Commodore but recently lost it because I was spending on Pindicator to try to get the same thing. I don't even have alphabet and neither does Pindicator, so I don't actually know what techs he has. However, Commodore has both Maces and Muskets, so he's reasonably advanced. I suspect Pindicator isn't that far yet.

oh, ok. well guilds couldnt come at a better time then, hehe. maybe you won't be invading commodore, but you should still be able to defend yourself well with knights smile.

T121-124 consolidates, flexes muscles

Ok, used the golden age to do cool things. Got Banking:

That means Mercantilism time. I also won the Economics race for this guy:

So I can launch another GA whenever I want because:

Heroic Epic is letting me 1T Knights here, and I'm getting a scientist here. Neato. I may actually wait though and use a scientist on a bulb because I should get another scientist shortly. I keep having all these silly skirmishes with AT:

I think he's just trying to make me pay..? But to recap, he killed a Pikeman and 2 workers at the cost of SIX horse archers. Those workers were valueless to me - I have no needed tile improvements and I literally have them sitting around bored (like on that catapult stack). I was only trying to chain irrigate over to Annie so I could farm that one tile with the sign on it. Six HAs is basically half his army to kill a Pike. I think he wants this game to just be done lol. Can't blame him though. Anyways, check out this awesomeness from this past turn:

Note that Commodore is in his Taj golden age right now and I'm not, and yet I'm neck and neck with him in the demos. Also... FIRST IN SOLDIERS!!! Yep:

Thought this day would never come. Knight Smash?

You suck almost as much as Krill at showing your entire empire. Show us!

Ok I'll go through it all in my report where I document the kill and all that. Currently trying to figure out how to dotmap AT's remains. Should've done this ahead of time. smile

Just to clarify, I mean a big overview shot of your empire. I think those are quite useful to keep lurkers in touch with the game. City screenshots are useful to see what kinds of specific strategies you're pursuing, but an overview shot helps the most to get the big picture of how and what you're doing.

Holy crap, why did I raze his last city instead of keeping it?

T125-129 Eliminates AT

Got Printing Press awhile back:

Anyways, after AT sacrified a bunch of HAs to pick off 2 workers, I decided he was vulnerable to be finished off. Setup:

Move in:

Shouldn't be too bad. Crossbow is mildly nasty, but the rest aren't good defenders. However, he did this:

Pretty sure he just wanted to be done and I can't blame him at all. So I took it:

And honestly, this is my biggest brain fart in quite awhile. Should have kept it because this is exactly where I want a city because it's on a hill. Now it's not completely ridiculous to burn only because the revolt time makes it VERY vulnerable to Commodore counter-attack and this lets me accumulate culture must faster, but still, size 11! I was a bit concerned about Commodore coming at me, yes, (also was worried Pindicator was coming too) but I still messed this up. Overview shots:

The signs are how I'd like to dotmap it. I've got a settler there ready to resettle next turn and I'm pushing units in here. I'm also pushing towards Rifles and I'll swap into Nationalism and draft a bit so that'll help. My middle section:

And my core which should wrap all the way around soon:

I got another scientist at EoT, so I have enough for my 2 man GA with an extra scientist to spare. Troy is not far from another great person either - will probably generate in just a few turns (was just a few GPP away from tying Abed). So I'm going to try to turn the burners on now before I got dogpiled by Pindicator and Commodore.
