Catwalk Wrote:Questions for dedlurkers: Who needs bonus points anyway? Can't check the save right now, but here's my thoughts:1. It looks like a nice place to generate great people but I agree with Slowcheetah, until we have either caste system or enough infrastructure to let us run a bunch of specialists it won't do us a lot of good for now. So maybe grow it as quickly as possible to the current happy cap, cottage the tiles that are usable now, whip the library when we can, and then keep this city as large as possible so we can work all the yummy tiles in the BFC once borders pop. If you want to push out early GPs, maybe we should spare the whip here except for getting the library online. I'd like to be able to work the gold along with two science specialists constantly whenever we have enough happiness resources to support that. And then grow as quickly as possible onto FP cottages as the happy cap increases. 2. We picked Rome for praetorians, right? We can't build them without IW, so let's tech IW! ![]() 3. See #2 and build as many praetorians as you can. If the unit is OP let's abuse the hell out of it. OK so he's building axes, which beat preats on a hammer efficiency basis, but we're AGG right? If you have barracks wherever you're building the praets and put shock on them that smashes axes, right? So even if we lose some we probably come out ahead in the hammer trade and hopefully make defending his area a nightmare. ...and I got caught up to find that your last post says you may not want to settle up in his face.

Teaser report:
1) We didn't get Magellan's this turn, wondering if something is up. Are there too few water tiles to get it? That would suck balls If not that, are there special requirements for the route?2) HUGE t50 report coming up, including 2-3 new plans and nothing concrete. 3) Everybody has Writing now, so we can research it with a massive +85% bonus! 4) Someone has IW, and I haven't spotted any iron tiles in their lands. Looks like we may need to settle for it. 5) Finally getting trade routes with Azza, seems like he's not getting any with me ![]() 6) Building 3 scouts pronto, I want to explore lots while I still have OB with the whole world. 7) The marble site has a food surplus of +18 and a production of 6 (+2 forests for chopping), looks like the best candidate for GP farm by far. 8) Settling up on Waterbat is still on the table, have a few more turns to weigh the pros and cons. Initial analysis: If I do it, cheetah will bitch at me. If I don't do it, xenu will bitch at me. Tough choice...
1. For a toroid you have to circumnavigate both the N/S and W/E axis. Did we do that (is this a toroid? I'm following too many games and can't remember).
8. Clearly you should do what Cheetah wants, he posts more frequently and with better insight than I do. Example: see how I ignored points 2 through 7! Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon
Both axes have been navigated, will show in screenshots. I know that a map is required to have a minimum level of ocean in order for Magellan's to be awarded, but I don't know what it is. As for 8, it's mostly a question of what we get out of it + denial value vs the cost and the risk. Given that resources are duplicated, all we get is another city site. No additional resources. And we have already secured those resources to the west. I was stressing denial value earlier as I considered Waterbat the #1 opponent, but I think he's falling behind now and I consequently value the denial lower. For example, he settled on the stone with his first expansion but had no interest in getting Masonry and Pyramids. I strongly assumed that's what he intended, but he didn't get Masonry until this turn.
Also, I'm going to do a massive data dump of my C&D findings. I'm wrapping up the tech lists for everybody, it's more difficult to do than anticipated.
I had less time today than anticipated and not quite done with the tech analysis yet, so the huge report will have to wait. Azza agreed to a t71 extension of our NAP and border agreement.
