Favourite "Master of Orion"?

Ohh wait, I have heard of Dominus Galaxia before! I talked to the developer Jeff Graw of it before. Hadriex was streaming it, and the developer showed up in his streams chat. I was talking to him and found out that he was a fellow albertan. He apparently lives an hour or so north of me lol.

I was probably annoying the crap outta him with all my questions lol. He never told me who did the music for it, just that they did it in a single afternoon lol. I have a friend that won a scholarship from the composers guild of canada for best up-and-coming composer in alberta at the time and was going to give him his contact info, but I don't think I did?

It had some really nifty features. I liked the prototype on paper being not entirely reflective of the finished product, fun and realistic. Design flaws and unexpected benefits are things that happen to real life vehicles as they are put into service.

Hard to tell if the gameplay would've jived with me overall, but it had tons of nifty things about it. The art was very competent, but also a bit bland in my opinion. I have very fond wishes for him and his project. Although if I remember correctly he said that the kickstarter didn't make enough money to live off for long, so he had to get a dayjob, and a 9-5 left him too drained to work on it so it ended up in limbo.

If I knew how to modify the poll I'd add Dominus Galaxia to it. Even if it's only for my albertan pride lol.

If we are talking about MOO inspired games there is also Interstellar Space: Genesis. Very much MOO2 with all the same terminology and UI. I like it a lot for a more casual 4X experience.

I've seen that one before but it didn't really make an impression on me. Maybe it's more fun to play than to watch played?

I think so. I never watch games but I think for the RB community the war part (which would be the most fun to watch) is not good enough. Just survive long enough to get the best technologies and build some big fleets. I am more a builder type so that is not a problem for me, especially if I want a more relaxing type of game. Which would indeed be even more boring to watch than play.

Erasmas, thanks for mentioning Interstellar Space: Genesis. thumbsup I am taking a look at it, definitely has a lot of the MOO2 feel once you get used the interface and some differences here and there. I will have to read through the manual (nice that it has one nod) to make sure I understand the infrastructure and planetary spending stuff. The way production gets split into several different 'buckets' will take a little getting used to, at least for me. But it looks interesting.

I vote Dominus Galaxia. Master of Orion (1993) is second place.

I've never played Dominus Galaxia myself, but I was impressed with a lot of its innovations when I watched it played!

All I could find on youtube for Dominus Galaxia are 5 years old pre-beta "reviews", and those where not impressive at all. Have you seen something much more recent?

There was a little development since then. Last patch was pushed on Nov 4, 2023. Our lead developer was busy with his daytime jobs and several other side projects. Other project members also stopped developing for this and other reasons. Plus tons of other reasons and situations not uncommon in large software development projects...
