Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Japper is back in BBG

Somehow lost the screenshot, but from loyalty pressure I can see that Archduke's capital is just over the crest of those hills where his scout is in the picture I met him, which makes sense because he likely finished it at most 2 turns ago and it's rough terrain.

One thing I realised is that he mercifully didn't take the oppertunity to go straight into an Eagle Warrior rush, which probably would've been able to straight up kill me here. The scout means at least a few turns' delay behind him getting his second Eagle Warrior (if he intends to do so at all, he might just go into a Settler at pop 2). I'll keep an eye out, maybe this forces me to go into second Slinger or a Warrior and going AH--->Archery just to be safe. Hopefully he doesn't want to roll the dice quite this early, though he has done some pretty fast rushes before.

He'll probably spot that NW in a few turns, so I have to get a Settler up there ASAP to claim it. Unfortunately he's putting 16+ loyalty pressure down that river valley north of Hunza already, so may have to cede him the ground. Can't really contest it with how slow St. Petersburg'll be growing. I hope there's some good land to the east of the natural wonder

Astro is done, and I lock in a +3 Lavra at Saint Petersburg for the absolute lowest cost possible, even with just one pop currently, it'd take only 6 turns, nice.

We hit size 2, and are now officially stalled out shakehead

I switch into a settler , after putting a few turns into a builder (a neat feature of BBG is that it opens up the build queue on the UI, so I can actually see that I have prod in that builder without having to mouse over). I need the settler faster and the builder will have nothing to do if I finish it before AH anyway. I'll finish it when I have to begin the slow progress of regrowing, can't build a settler then anyway. (you can't start one unless you have a "free" pop, even if you'd regrow before it finishes, just one of those... fun mechanics, thanks Ed!)

The Slinger finds out the valley to our south is a dead end, no way east through the mountains there, well.... at least I'm safe from that direction  twirl Hope the scout finds a way through the range at the Natural Wonder. Or we're all the way boxed in. If that is the case I might have to conquer Hunza (I'd rather not, it is a great CS, and its terrain is bad) and fight Archduke to be able to grow past 2-3 cities, I hope not. scared

Seems like a pretty great spot for city 3 or 4. Hope there's no player in that little pocket. I could really use some safe expansion.

That natural wonder is an addition from the mod, no? I don't think it's in the base game.

Different regions have different sets of natural wonders. BBGM added them all together.

Natural Wonder generation tends to look pretty streaky. I have Great Barrier and Kilimanjaro almost every game. Though that might just be confirmation bias. Haven't seen this one before in one of my games, IIRC it is from one of the Leader Pass DLCs.

I do remember BBG/M doing something with the NW spawns, and they spawn more central (for fairness)

T20:

My scout reveals a continent split to the East, giving me Foreign Trade boost and some Era Score. 5 Turns to settler completion. I am still ahead of Archduke in military score so he went double scout instead of Eagle Warriors
