Parts of the New York subway system got flooded out on Wednesday causing delays of a few hours in some parts. I got caught up in it myself and was half an hour late(r than usual) getting in to work. Doesn't compare with your situation, of course, Doc, but your area wasn't the only place affected. smile

Lots of folk had it worse then I did. Many lost homes. In many places there is debate on the problem of people building homes in disaster prone areas. I don't want to debate that here, but, I am glad my home is on high ground and that I was wise enough to choose this as a place to live. It got scary seeing the water consume my garden... I can't imagine what it must have been like to helplessly sit by and watch the water consume your home.

Thinking about that unsettles me a great deal. I am unsure why. But the very thought it self makes my blood run cold. I guess I do not like the idea of being totally powerless while watching a precious thing dear to your heart and full of memories destroyed. And you can't do jack spit about it. Ugh.

Bat cave is flooded. But bats seem ok. They have been hanging out in the trees around it instead.

Lots of desperate animals. And not all of them friendly. Already had to shoot two wild dogs that decided that my little stretch of high ground will be their new home. I feel bad about it, but, they killed livestock. And they were not friendly at all. Feral. Completely feral. Starved mangy sick looking wild dogs. I reckon killing them was an act of mercy. It was a clean kill, no suffering for either, both were dead before hitting the ground. I doubt they even knew what hit them. Not even a yelp. Still feel awful about doing it though.

I think there is some sort of wild cat coming around at night. Going to have to play night watchman I think and keep an eye out. It's big. Large paw prints in mud. Unsure what sort of cat. But it eats chickens and killed one of the goats. It's welcome is officially over. I have the night vision goggles ready to go with a new battery. Still selecting rifle. Mayhap a 302 or a 30/30. Mayhap something sniper-ish. Big kitty is not at all afraid of coming close to house though. Whatever it is, it has to go. It eats livestock and is not afraid of human settlement.

Also a lot of human scum scavenging the area looking for valuables that washed away with homes. Not sure if it's a good idea to shoot those, still debating.
