SPOILER - PBEM10 Serdoas Thread

And so that everyone gets an idea how my start looks like:

As I have already settled and that cannot be reversed, I would like to hear what the lurkers think of that move. Did it make sense to get the PH and settle where I did?

For myself, now looking at it, I probably should better have got the PH 1SW of my cap, but then I would have had no fresh water and would not get the whale into my borders (not that I give much for whale, most of the time I ignore it because it comes so late [with optics?] that I do not think about it anymore...). Also it would have been one more turn delay and I do not think that it would have been worth, not even for a PH.

What I am thinking about is if I want to go for specialist. If all the map is as food rich as what I can see here already then it might make sense.

The capital does look a bit awkward sitting one tile off the coast, but depending on how you place your other cities it could probably work out alright. I guess it's a classic question of early growth vs. long-term potential.

Yeah, this akward looking is the reason why I ask wink And looking at it, I am short 1 food to work the 2 PH and the 2 GH with 5 pop because of the wet corn being on plains rather then on grassland. Also no lighthouse for my fish... oh well, at least my worker will finish soon lol

Ok, it seems I sit on an island. I was not too happy with my settling off the coast first due to that, but after having discovered some more of my island, it seems not that bad. If you look at the picutre, exactly two NW and NE of the starting spot for my settler is a PH directly on the coast. I could not have settled those if I had settled in place.

One will get fish, wheat, pig and furs. The other ivory, sheep, wheat and probably another fish. And as the cap will have a 5 food corn and a 5 food fish, it should also be ok. Another city probably on the plains tile below the pig next to the west of my cap for Pig, Whale and whatever is in the fog.

Yeah this looks easy to dotmap, and those plains hills cities are awfully nice in the early game.
I have to run.

Worker finished, farms the corn. AH should come in in time to pasture the pigs or sheep, probably sheep, building with 2 pop another worker, mining the hills and research BW for slavery. At least thats the plan for now, might change.

You prefer 5 food and 1 commerce over 5 food and 1 hammer?

Good catch. If I say I wanted only to get lurker comments, probably nobody will believe me? lol

I had not checked ingame what sheep gives and - to be honest - I cannot remeber the yields without looking into the game for some improvements (like sheep obviously).

So, pigs first.

Turn 12 played, AH came in. And look at that picture

They are directly on the inital starting spot. I guess that will be the same for all so everyone who settled in place and researched AH (and everyone will research that soon) will get a 2/2/1 tile city center.

So in the long run I lost one turn (10 commerce, 3 food, 1 hammer) to gain around 6 - 14 hammers and 2 worker turns on the ones settling in place. Guess you really can discuss if the gamble was worth it now. I am not sure, but I could not know that, so I don't regret my decision.

And looking at the demos (because I finished farming the corn as you can see)

Highest MfG and highest crop yield. Ok, that does not say anything at this stage, I know. But at least it shows that I was the first one to two pop (well, except for Cyneheard all others can get there this turn as well).

I think, even at this not to exciting turns, a post each week should be made. So, that is the post for this week. lol

Being serious, there is just nothing to report. I don't do any demo-works this game and I do not think that telling you "I build a warrior, I moved him SW, he did see another wheat" is really THAT interesting.

I will make another bigger update with pictures and everything in 2-3 turns though. Only so you lurkers are kept informed. wink
