Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] A Game of Civ: A Song of Weed and Fail

I'm happy to discuss it with you - I've just set up a poll first just to see if we have a consensus on any kind of spoiler restrictions before we get started.

I've read all the books and seen all the TV show to date, so I'm open to discussing both

Perhaps we can always use the appropriate spoiler tags when talking about book/TV show/etc. This was even people that don't want to get spoilered can discuss.

I've read the books and seen all TV show too, and I don't mind discussing anything there is to discuss.

Spoiler tags can work too, forgot about that.

Well I'll give it a couple of days just to gauge interest and then we'll go for it

Given my sandboxing showing that I can get Hunting and AH done in time for the first worker, I've decided to play the Phi synergy card and go for Korea.

Min/Myst isn't great but I think it will give me enough flexibility to work with.

Plus, when I was sandboxing, I never had Mysticism in time to start monuments in the cities I rushed to settle. This solves that problem and should not impact proceedings.

Having extra powerful half-price Universities that I will certainly build is good, and Catapults will be in play for a decent stretch of the game, so the Hwacha will be useful.

I voted in favor of discussing everything, but events later than season 4 should be spoilered. People have a right to be lagging behind the newest episodes, or to want to see all the episodes of season 5 back to back.

On game related stuff, how do you intend to keep up in expansion with your late traits and UB ?

And on selfish related stuff, I see you played in the last Diplomacy game here, are you interested in a new one ?

That seems like a pretty sensible spoiler policy.

In terms of expansion, I'm hoping to be able to pull off a pretty big farmers gambit early to grab some choice land that can later utilise my traits. With the low difficulty, that seems like the wisest bet. With two industrious leaders, its clear to me that they are likely going to be focusing on the early wonders whilst myself and Team Sury push for expansion.

On a related note - if Chm/Ind of India isn't heading straight for an early Stonehenge then I'll eat my hat. Would love for FDR to steal it away from him though - that would be painful.

On the Diplomacy front, I think I'll pass as the last one with MJW was not pleasant for me at all and I'm wary about getting invested in another game of it.

The current signed up players seem pretty reasonable, you can always drop by the thread in the gaming table, we're at 5/7 now.

To start off with a book discussion :

Is Jon Snow dead ? I think he's not, or at least he won't stay that way permanently

I doubt it, given that so much is still to happen at the Wall and there being no other major viewpoint characters up there if he dies.

Either Melisandre revives him like Thoros did for Beric or he ends up warging into Ghost. Some argue that he'll just be wounded but not killed, but given that they were trying to kill him I don't see them stopping stabbing him until he's almost beyond normal saving.

My personal favorite for unexpected fun would be if he warged into Wun Wun the Giant instead and just smashed shit up.

Well technically Melisandre is another viewpoint character, she could serve until he's back.

A very interesting/crackpot theory I've heard is that Howland Reed will revive him with some weird crannogman magic. It's based on a litteral interpretation of Ned's "without him I'd be dead" comment, and that Howland revived him at the tower of joy. That's probably too much crackpot but I'd like to meet HR in a situation where he could tell Jon who he really is

Book spoilers. Current TV show season spoilers.

Jon Snow can't be dead. Otherwise, what was his point in the book? lol He hasn't done anything meaningful so far! Did I read all those chapters just so the guy ends up dying like this? neenerneener

I don't follow much discussion about the books, so I never heard these ideas. They seem pretty interesting. I thought by myself that Melisandre was going to save him, but I'm not sure Martin would go for something so obvious. I get the feeling that Jon Snow will "stay dead" for some time, before coming back.

Perhaps Bran can save him too, somehow.

In a different subject, I wonder what Martin will do in book 6 regarding all the different storylines happening at the same time. Personally, I think there's a bit too much of those right now. It's hard to be interested in bland characters (my opinion, it's not that I find them badly done, just that they can't compete with characters like Tyrion and Jamie) like those Dorne guys with Daenerys, all the different Greyjoy characters, Sam Tarly. I feel that Daenerys is pretty bland too (I don't enjoy her plot very much, I only liked Jorah there), but I guess that'll cause some controversy. neenerneener

Basically, I think he'll have to kill some of these characters quick! C'mon, man, do what you do best! lol

I like some of the solutions that the show is doing to fix that, by the way. The ideas of marrying Sansa to Ramsey and cutting the other Targaryen guy seem pretty reasonable to me. There was just no way to fit everything in the show in a way that a big audience would be able to keep track of.
