[SPOILERS] Dazed and Whosit walk the line: Darius of Egypt

Thanks! Is Nicolae using a Portal theme? I assumed it was more of a Big Brother/1984 kinda thing.

He's not using a Portal theme, but his warriors were named cameras. I'd say Portal's atmosphere was influenced by his theme though.

I finally took at look at the most recent save. The Civ has grown a lot, but we're so far behind, and Com is in a real strong lead. Can't blame ya', though, Dazed. Glad to see you're still trucking along, though. I can't say much to help since I didn't look long enough to see what's going on, but I figured I should at least look at what's happened.

Boldly, I would have liked to say that I was going to update for you, but the truth is I wasn't planning it. (The truth hurts sometimes. Sorry!) But then, Whosit had to go and suggest that our position is "far behind" and that did not sit well with me. So I'm about to show you what's up just so that I can argue that we're not far behind. Behind, yes! but not far behind.

I haven't figured out how to organize it yet and, to be honest yet again, don't really have time to write an amazing report. So I'm gonna tell you what I'm up to and why I think we're doing OK and then show some pictures with brief descriptions.

Overall, I feel good about where we are because 1) we're Financial and Organized which means our start is slow. We had no fast Workers (and I lost us 2 of them) and we had no fast granaries. No fast culture. No fast settlers. Nothing like that. Despite all that, we're in the middle of the pack. And add to that we're now entering the stage of the game when financial and organized will really shine. Also, I have cheap courthouses up most everywhere and, as mentioned, we're ORG and FIN. So we're poised to grab up a lion's share of the remaining spots to settle without hurting our teching ability.

The diplomatic scene:

Nothing of interest with Nicolae. I offered him a 1 gold for 1 gold trade a long time ago to indicate peace but realized I should have done a resource trade instead. Not sure if he was confused about that or not. If he spent a lot of time trying to figure it out, I'm not broken up about it. We've basically left each other alone.

AT. We have OBs. I offered him this as a sign of peace:

I'm least worried about AT.

MH. I have OBs and a crab/crab trade with him as well:

MH is really scary if we make it to the modern era. But I'm not worried about him doing anythign to crazy at the moment.

Commodore and I had a bit of a scuffle a little while ago. I was gonna try to sneak in and poach/raze something but he surprised my surprise forces. We both killed a few things. I came out on the short end slightly. Nothing new since then. Though he's likely to be mad that I just settled a city to contest his marble. But I had no choice since Nicolae took my other source.

I just launched a golden age with the prophet that I have had around FOREVER from Henge. I probably shoulda settled him given how long he was sitting around but by the time I decided that, I was almost done with Civil Service and didn't want to waste a turn switching into Bureaucracy. So I did that. And I was able to to 1 turn Construction, then Metal casting. And I will have Machinery before the Golden Age is up (i.e. Maces!) Also, I'm using a brief bit of Caste to do get a scientist for the academy

The maces and construction make me a terrible target for invasion!

The only thing I'm truly worried about is my crop yield:

Forges will be going up soon. I really wish I could get some OR religion too, though.

F1:

Walk the Line is gonna keep growing to the happy cap of course. Gonna start some settlers and military next.

The Northwest (Sunday Coming is the Commodore-marble plant)

I'd like the spot 1N of the sheep to be mine!

NE:

2N of the dyes is my plan to grab banana from AT!

Middle:

I may move the city I have marked by the Iron 1NW to claim the Corn across the water. It'd be a pain to defend but then I woudln't have to share the banana with Folsom Blues.

Far South:

Daddy Blues is gonna be National Epic. Gun City will be Heroic Epic, of course, though I don't have a unit even close to getting enough XP which totally sucks. frown

I need more workers, as always. Need a quick push for some more settlers and then macemen. If i can get more than average amount of land, stay apace militarily and nurture the economy while riding FIN/ORG, I'll be OK.

That said, I'm not in a game winning situation. But I'm in a "take advantage if something happens and possibly win" situation.

Also, note that I jumped from last place to third place in score at the end of turn.

I'm sorry, I think my cricket collection was accidentally drowning out the lurker response. I've taken care of them now, so feel free to post now! :P

Hey, glad for you to prove me wrong! :P At least I stirred up the pot, if nothing else. Doesn't surprise me that we're behind in food--I didn't look at the graphs when I peeked in, but a glance check suggested our cities weren't as big as the others. Can you tell me what's up with that? Have you just been whipping a lot, or are we short on happy supply? I imagine going into the midgame, we'd wants large populations working lots of cottages. Those Dyes still need connecting.

And, do you know how the tech compares to other civs? I don't know if you or anyone teched Alphabet.

Also, do you have a plan for generating enough culture to steal Marble from Com?

Soldier count looks high enough that we don't scream "TARGET!" to anyone.

I may not really have time to actively play, but perhaps I can ask questions and annoy you so you're at least forced to write down and justify your plans. :P I should start doing something to earn back the title of "team mate."

Oh, also glad to see some boats on the water. How's the naval action been looking? There's definitely room for water action to play a part in things in time to come.

Look forward to seeing what you do with your late game advantages as they start coming into play!
