Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Cornflakes and Q Eat 'Em for Breakfast!

Question for anyone who knows the answer:

Is is possible to give circumnavigation to a civ through worldbuilder (CTRL+W)? I tried faking it with a band or revealed tiles, placing a line of units around the map, giving myself a fast unit to run around while mashing Enter to make the turns fly by, giving myself satellites tech ... nothing worked. It's not a huge deal in this case but it would be nice to know all the same. In the sandbox I won't be using it for more than workboat movement (and I can just as delete the WB after I build it and place the nets when they should appear).

You probably don't have enough water in your sandbox.

1. Is there enough water in your sandbox for there to be a circumnavigation bonus in the first place?
2. Did you advance the turn? Circumnavigation takes effect the turn after you reveal the necessary map tiles after all.

If neither of these are an issue then I got nothing...

Yeah circum requires 25% water IIRC.
Probably easiest to give each water unit morale.

I'll just go with the morale solution for circumnav smile Still following the sandboxed plan through the next 10 turns or so. Only piece of interesting news is that we met Azza (maybe another known tech beaker on BW?). Commodore still has his EP's on us, so I've got it set for 1 EP/turn towards him, 3EP/turn towards 2metra. We'll have 2metra's graphs in about 5 more turns i think.

It's been a couple turns since we've had a picture ... Azza is playing Barb Bait up north with his scout. I've seen a lion popping in and out of the fog since about T20 so hopefully he'll get Azza's scout so we don't have to deal with the lion ourself smile

Graph dump since we just got graphs on 2metra (he hasn't been spending much on us so we got them at 36 rather than 44). Comm/BRick are still spending full 4pt on us.

Why's his scout have medic/c1?
Rhetorical OC.
How'd we contrived to land next to Rome, Commodore and Mongolia cry

Solution ... our own pointy sticks make each of them think outwards, leaving us to expand in peace. Fortunately our UU is a perfect counter to any Mongolian hoards. Our Jungle to the south should slow down Commodore and dampen his aggressive feelings towards us pre-IW/Calendar when that land actually becomes useful.

6/7 civs in this game have ancient/Clasical UU's and the other is France. There's bound to be early war somewhere, I just hope it's on in OUR homeland.

Basic analysis on azza, will fancy up/fix errors in 48 hours (when I'm at a computer).

Azza (PBEMs 33, 37, 45g, 46; PBs 7, 5, 8, 9)
playing as
Louis
of
Rome
As is obvious from that list, Azza is relatively new to the MP field yet has been playing energetically ever since.
He is also a relatively aggressive player (at least recently, (I haven't read his early pbems, and he got eliminated early in '7) though his civ picks/rolls may well be related to that) and is definitely skilled in putting together a strong defence (see pb5).
He also lands the relatively terrifying civ of Rome, whose praetorians are very scary, and whose (inevitable) rush is boosted by tech trading.
Louis is also a reasonably strong leader, with the good early game creative, and the industrius trait to help with teching. Romes weak hunting/fishing start is boosted by the general prevalence of water (I also think c&d supports him moving to coast - likely for fish) and the general scout start. With a coastal start and a industrius dog, he is likely to aim for tGLH. Extremely presumptious I know, but I get the feeling he will expand/rush well, attempting to grab the glh to support the city spam, and then aim to leech off other teching civs in the midgame, relying on a superior production/long term potential ti get into the late game. The likelihood of this happening is probably less then 5%, but its the sort of thing I might aim for as him.
He is even more scary as one of praets primary counters (WEs) are banned. That said we should probably still aim for cats if we turn out to be near him (there's a fair chance his scout has just travelled for ages), and pray.
If he does rush, we should not be trading much with him

Yeah I agree on neighbours.
I really want to find their capitals though, I'm paranoid about one or more of them being above the jungle belt and preparing a rush.
Impis roaming the jungle sounds fun smile
