Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Japper is back in BBG

The area to our east is very mountanous, tough manouvering, but at least that also makes it very hard for a rival to dislodge me:

Being Russia I can also border block anyone from getting through the mountain ranges. No contacts out there so far, so I might have some free real estate to expand into here (it's good terrain, despite all the useless mountain tiles)

First barb spotted (I was beginning to think they may have been turned off on accident), I'll send the Slinger around to help out our buddy (for now shades ) Hunza and maybe get me the Archery and Bronze Working Eurekas

AH finishes, on to mining, starting a Builder in 2 turns and I want Mining before it finishes to be able to get a Eureka (Wheel) with my first three improvements.

Unfortunately the idiot barb AI left the camp unguarded, with a CS unit right next to it rolleye so I just take it with the Warrior. Oh well, there'll probably be more oppertunity to get Archery and BW Eurekas soon. With another 50 gold I can buy a Trader the turn before I found my second city, that way I can feed the poor starving citizens of St Petersburg.

The ocean to the west is already swarming with Barb Galleys despite me killing the camp last turn (I saw 5! And we're not even 25 turns in yet!), hope they screw with Archduke's plans to settle that coast neenerneener (for those who haven't played in a while, Barbarian Galleys can, AND WILL, take cities in civ 6 and burn them down, and before you get a Swordsman they can do it in a couple turns due to the low city strenght). The civ 6 barbarians are... something else, right? eek

Internationally I see three players have, I think from Empire Score, a second city set up or a lot of growth in their capital. (Greenline is still, like me, stuck at 17 score, I wonder how his game is going? Poor guy does seem to have some rotten luck) My first Settler finally finishes next turn.

Turn 25:

Meet Geneva (not a firstmeet, strong CS though), Settler finally on its way. On to a Builder, completes in 3 turns.

Archduke has his Scout in an awkward position, I hope it's just dumb luck and not malicious. Offered him a DoF (which would give me enough of a grace-period to move it in place) and move up my slinger if he wants to play hardball about this. Maybe need a Warrior purchase to protect my Builder and Settler, I really can't afford to delay anymore, I'm already behind.

My scout meets Kongo to the Northeast. 2 more players left to find. I expect the map looks something like this:

North: Yuris and Greenline
Middle: Archduke on the left/West, Pindicator to the right and a little further up north than Arch.
South: ...Me

Steam screenshots dissapeared on me, bummer, because this was actually a big turn...

Archduke didn't accept DoF and moved into my capital with the Scout. Bastard, but then again I can't fault him exactly, I'd do the same. I bought a Slinger, a desperation play to be sure, but I can't delay settling any longer. If he founds a city on the NW my goose is cooked. That'd pretty much lock of my expansion to the West (the wonder is the only passage through the central mountain range at least as far as I know).
Next turn we get a Builder to protect as well. Damn it!

Faith from working the dyes ticks over into a pantheon, I go with Goddess of the Hunt as planned (in BBG, 1f/2gld from camps, not spectacular, but I desperately need workable tiles in my capital, and with Archduke pressing on me I probably can't just feed it with Traders).

Finally a tile that is actually workable! And not even that good either lol

Turn 30, seemed like a good time to do a score overview:

I'm dead last scared , hopefully I pull back a little bit once I found my city in 2 turns and my cap regrows.

As you can probably see, my settler hit another snag in the form of a barb scout coming out of the fog (camp's probably to the north since I didn't get a popup for it), luckily I was already protecting it with a Slinger.

Screenshot is too big again ( rant )...

...but anyway I finished my first Lavra and planted my city next to the Natural Wonder (I could've zoned a +6 Lavra there, but chose a +2 near the mountains, don't want to override the +3 culture and faith on that tile). Time for the bounceback in score next turn dancing

Hopefully! Seems sucky that BBG can just dump you in the tundra like this, even if you are Russia.
