I had enough EPs to open his city. I don't anymore - spent some on Nationalism.

It was, he did and I did. Taj started. War should be just around the corner.

Taj complete 4 turns later with a massive 5 forest chop. Cal lite off GA with Prophet, I am now in GA - we are going to be burning up the tech tree for next 10ish turns. No war movements but then again, I have gunpowder and muskets while he just finished gunpowder - I don't actually expect him to attack given the situation.

There is some more land to my West that I am going to grab while my core cities bank up - stealing Banking from another player for 220 EPs (ie about 1/3 turns worth of EP production) next turn.

Here is the current situation:


My initial 'host' (for the EP parasite) was Isk Mer (the Cal mentioned above). He kicked up a stink, threatened war, etc. None of that was going to stop me. However, closing borders, not having my religion and running counter-espionage missions makes stealing from him too expensive.

I did have some considerable EP stockpiled against him and I used that effectively (see above) by stealing Nationalism and chopping out the Taj before he did. We are now both in Golden Ages.

So ... why didn't he carry through his threat? Probably because of this ...

All in all, I think that Isk Mer has much better land that I do. He has double or triple gold, double gems, phants and lots of grass land.

My civ is over-weight on hammer cities and under weight commerce. As I was planning on running a EP economy, I could afford to be under weight in commerce and catch back up with the power of EP. However, after learning form this pbem, I am now running a hybrid economy ... some EP, some tech. Current thinking is to finish Education (3) and then to save gold while I build Oxford ... then to tech to Railroads (I just got a Great Engineer) for Mining inc, then tech for Cav and capture some cities.

While that is going on, I will push and grab some more land and then back fill - concentrating on Commerce cities.

Para put 2-3 turns into Lib and is sitting on it. I am trying to come up with a plan where I can steal it in 1 turn (not sure I can do that). I think he has enough EP on me to see my tech so it will have to be a 1 turn tech.
