[no players] CiVI Lurking Part II: Sophomore Slump

Woden the favorite? He's getting crushed right now by Alhambram and doesn't seem to realize the seriousness of his position. Oledavy is only interested in taking the lightly defended former Greek cities in the deep south, he's not riding to Woden's rescue. Woden's pinning his hopes on infantry that are still several turns away; how many more cities does he lose while waiting on those techs to come in? And honestly, I think Great General boosted cossacks are better than infantry anyway. The cossacks can attack out of the fog and retreat back to heal again without taking losses. I think Woden is in serious trouble here, maybe not in terms of getting eliminated, but certainly in position to take major losses.

Oledavy is the favorite from what I can see. He's done an excellent job of reading the diplomatic situation, and will let Woden/Alhambram beat on one another without getting too involved. And while Singaboy will have field cannons by the time their friendship wears off, Oledavy will have infantry and planes by the same point in time.

This isn't always true, some people find it easier to keep their cool than others. Also, a lot of the comments in the heat of the moment turn out to be overreactions, that the players walk back later, once their heads have cooled.

But certainly there are some players who are more fun to play against than others.

OleDavy may *have* to try to rescue Woden, since I don't think he can rush his way to an Inquisition. As soon as Woden either dies or loses the ability to clear out Weedy Movement, Alhambram has won.

Plus Woden doesn't have a massive gold reserve, so just getting the tech will not be enough to have infantry on the field.

It all depends on whether Woden finds the ability to stalemate Alhambram or not. Four turn research to Infantry, several more to get Infantry on the field, longer if he goes straight for Corps, all the while Alhambram will be whittling down his army and cities, gaining XP on Cossacks. At the same time, defense is favored and Infantry Corps will be stronger than Cossacks finally, so he might be able to manage a stalemate. If he does, then I agree that OleDavy's position is great - I'm just surprised to see Woden, the science leader, behind in military technology, especially at such a crucial moment.

Woden had his sandcastle kicked; you're 100% allowed to vent in your thread about that.

Taking Jungle Cruise; interesting. This gives an out for Alhabrim, giving back the city for peace...
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

Woden is in a tough spot, but this war has been long coming.

Personally Alhambram should have gone for Woden before opening himself to a possible 2nd front against Oledavy, but from what I have seen it won´t be enough.

Not that it would have helped me too much, I would have found myself in a 2vs1 which would have been only just a tad slower then the 3vs1 I fear.

Well it looks like you were right Sullla; unless Oledavy changes his mind and decides to bail out Woden but that seems unlikely because it would leave him wide open to Singaboy.

From my point of view,Albra played like a militar genius, having iniative and making people react and is all about in civ4 and looks like is here as well. And cosacks man those are realy strong units. So if i understand corect other cavalry if atack will remain on the tile from which they atacked, but Cosack atack and and return so you can atack a unit with multiple cosacks and even more then that those cosacks can run, this sounds me extremely powerfull considering that here a unit doesnt die when loosing the fight, is just taking some damage.I would say if albra keep his hean and invest everything in cosacks and somehow manages to take care of'happines"(i dont know how is called here, he can win this game just with this units like cosacks in civ4 vanilla(boy i loved those.)

No, far from it. But is is the first where I am somehow invested emotionally. And this has clearly been a mistake.

And yes - I did play MP games (quite a lot actually, though not in CIV6) - but mostly with people I know (sometimes vaguely). This seems to make a hell of a difference, because if anyone called sb 'a bastard' (ignoring the joking uses) or played only for stupid revenge, he would become a pariah and not be invited to play any longer.

But it seems its only my romantic view that any public MP game should be treated as a tabletop game with all the "culture" involved.

Anyway - I will not comment on this any more.

Shame, I was wondering which meltdown threads to recommend to really blow your mind.

I guess Commodore has provoked most of the ones I've read - pindicooter in pb8 and there was a pbem with noblehelium and Gaspar which really stood out. After that I was struggling - we were mean about nakor in pb13 and BGN and krill had an entertaining kerfuffle in pb18 - but then I remembered werewolf! You should read any of those games, especially the hidden identities one...  dancing

PB7 will always be that shining city on a hill for me, at least in regards to meltdown games. It's even public diplomacy so all the good stuff is in one thread

EDIT: Had just skimmed and didn't realize it was about me. Yeah, I remember oscillating in pb8 between being honestly upset/indignant that I was kept being attacked, but that was also what I used to motivate myself to play well from a losing position. I've never really been able to harness it in the same way since.
