I blame the Communists.
Seriously overestimated how valuable Communism wouldn't be. Empire is tiny with -70% Maintanence everywhere, and building Kremlin full-priced 800 hammers for whips was a bad idea. Also probably should have gone Rifling/Nationhood instead of Military Science. Bad production is solved with drafting, and Rifles clobber everything AT has. And I don't know what else to say without sounding strange.
More people have been to Berlin than I have.

Well clearly you shouldn't expect things to go well if you force communism on the Cantonese.

I don't think Communism was a terrible idea, but it definitely wasn't the "win button" it would be for a sprawling empire. Kremlin in your Heroic Epic city was probably worse than the tech detour.
