Logged in to get a pic of the tech situation, since I wasn't sure who owned what.

I don't think Cornflakes/Q like our SWAT placement wink

I refused, of course. it will be interesting to see if they start a war over this - it's exactly half-way between our capitals right now, so it's not a pinkdot or anything. It is a little in-your-face, but it's also the most defensible land in the area. That said, we probably need more mil there - I'll make some archers...

wonder if we could beg stone from commodore. It would certainly be useful for getting walls up.

Well at least he offered something for the city rather than just demanding the city. smile Wow, interesting. I'd be worried if he wasn't up against Praets right now.

That's probably not a smart play for him. There's pretty much 0% chance that we'd accept that deal, he probably can't do anything about it while Azza's knocking at his door, but he's gone ahead and signalled his displeasure allowing us to be more prepared. Still he's got cats so we'll have to get a fair amount of military into that city.

Looking at the map from his point of view, this spot is definately putting a hurt on his expansion prospects in the region. Exactly what we wanted but not quite enough for him to think that we're being overly expansive. In retrospect this is a really good plant on our behalf in that its very effective in limiting him but probably doesn't come across as deliberate.

Currency isn't worth much because 2 people have it now. He's got a monopoly on Calendar right now so hopefully he's not too upset.

Regarding Currency: Did you want to offer both holders a gpt for Currency? Find some way to split the pie? I guess that'd go to Commodore and Cornflakes who are arguably in the lead, but it should still be a solid discount to us. We'll get to see oligopoly in action. Both of them will likely realize that it could be sold by the other for cheap.

Regarding Jowy and construction: Our tech rate is hurting right now I notice. Would a gpt offer to Jowy be worth it? If nothing else to guage his reaction. He's got an monopoly right now so he'd probably want way more than we'd offer especially given that its half researched. Still I'm more intested in his counter proposal rather than actually landing the deal.
Maybe start by asking construction for 1 gpt. Not a serious offer but just to signal that we want to make a gpt deal. Hopefully he'll understand.

I didn't realize when we planned it that SWAT was exactly half-way between our caps - 8 tiles.

If Cornflakes had been very nice and unaggressive this game, my feelings might be different - but he's already attacked 2 people (one was, I think, a worker steal), so I feel ok with it as being a strong defensive position.

That said - I'm going to chop in an archer and move the archer from MASH there wink 3 axes might take the place.

You know - something I didn't realize - cornflakes is kind of screwed for food, isn't he?

I mean - he shows up with 1 each of corn, banana, clam, sugar and cow (5 resources, 2 of which are calendar)

We, however, have 5 fish, 2 clams, 2 sheep, a cow, rice and corn.

No wonder he starts wars - he's got production but no food.

Well we're certainly doing well for food. If we can beat Cornflakes for control of N Lake Blue, then we'll definately be closer to his capital than him to ours.

That global view is pretty interesting - not that great for seeing workers though.smile It's definately going to be Commodore who's a risk for us at Lake Superior.

The more I look at the map, the more I think that Jowy is vulnerable to us (not right now mind you). He's really not made any attempt at choke spots or making a presense on Lake Erie. And the way we're positioned for control of 3 of the largest lakes. Man, we sure dumb-lucked the Colossus. I don't think that any other civ could make quite so much of it as we'll be able to do.

k, so we can't rely on the trade screen - for instance, cornflakes has more than 1 corn - he just has only 1 hooked up. All of our seafood is, of course, hooked up, and the sheep are on hills and I generally will road a hill if it makes any sense to after i work it, since it's a worker turn saved down the road.

A not-very-interesting turn.

Over by SWAT, cornflakes sent an archer to investigate. If he has 2 axes, he could maybe take the city - lose an axe on the dog, kill the spear, kill the dog with the archer. If the first axe does enough damage, of course. the dog will defend at something like 7.5 vs. the axe if he declares this turn and attacks next, so that's a fair chance of getting away scott free.

If I had been thinking about it, i would have sent the archer in MASH along - archer, spear, dog is pretty immune to any but a stack of 5 or more axes. Well, it's on it's way now and I'll be able to chop in another archer in a few turns, so if he dithers around, he won't be able to take it without a major push. Should I have done that calculation BEFORE planting the city? yes. yes I should have wink

Nuttin happening over by jowy - he moved his chariot away and I started roading the iron.

I made an offer that Commodore won't take:

If he does, yay!! If not, I'll try silver for stone, which will help us with walls in LA Law and SWAT. if not.. well, we'll just have silver!!

Demos:

We have commodore's graphs!! so...

Unsurprisingly, below all of them. Note that while Azza hasn't taken any of cornflakes cities, it looks like he's having an effect, so go Azza!!!

Crop yeild:

i was surprised we were behind on this, but we have a bunch of brand new cities, while commodor and cornflakes have been established for awhile.

Thats Jowy's GA, which just ended. Not sure what he was building there, to be honest. His power didn't go up that much - I have to assume HG. I'm sure we'll find out it's all courthouses or something. I dunno - seems like a waste of a GA, to me.

GNP :

This is kind of interesting - while the others have major fluctuations, we don't. Course, we also don't have multipliers wink

Another cornflakes city:

This is clearly a military pump - it has a granary and an ikhanda. it is equivalent to our NYPD Blue.

So, i said I would provide some more detail about the cities:

This is A-Team:

I played around with some numbers and it gets the lighthouse next turn. I move an archer in so it gets 3 more happy and I believe that, by getting 8 food this turn, I can grow 1 size a turn for the next 3 turns, which I will use on a forge, then on a couple more workers than a settler. I think we will have 3 or 4 turn workers, which is excellent.

MASH

2 more turns on the worker, then mil & that last workboat. I'm going to run 1 or 2 priests here for the GP points.

CHiPS
[Image: t106CHiPS.JPG]

This grows in 2 and gets a chop in 3. I'll whip in the granary then and go to a library and grow using the two fish.

My plan is to get as much whip overflow as I can from the library, whip a unit in and overflow that into the library and overflow THAT into a marble doubled (and hopefully OR boosted) Glib build. We should only need a few more chops and a few more turns after that. After that, we build NE and run scientist and maybe an engineer or something.

The OC

5 turns to finish granary and grow, then we'll be at size 4 and I'll be chopping out another worker.

NYPD Blue

This won't grow as fast as A-Team, but it will grow. I'll send a worker up here as soon as I can spare one, but it might be 6 or 7 turns. Still, will build military for me. The Rax will help with power.

well, that's this turn...

Commodre did not, in fact, accept the trade - not that I expected him to.

I offered silver for stone - we'll see if he accepts that. a 10 turn trade for that will help out defenses some and we don't really need the happy.

ok, based on my tests, closing borders with a civ doesn't stop that civ trading with another civ through your borders. well, it's tough to make that work, anyway.
